I actually love both of them for River but for different reasons.
11 brought out River's playful side, made it easier for her to be mysterious, a puzzle 11 gets to figure out. But for River, she had to be careful how she acted lest she give a hint as to who she was in the Doctor's future. She couldn't truly be herself with 11.
12, he's more the husband River deserved. When River is with 12 she doesn't have to worry about keeping secrets about who she is, he already knows all about her. There is no risk the Doctor could see her differently. To the Doctor, River is River, the woman he married, the woman he loves. He all but says when they are on the crashing ship. "Not one person on this ship, not one living thing is worth you."
