I think they are being deliberately vague on that point to keep some of the mystery sorrounding Rivers character. But at this point, i highly doubt if anyone believe there aren't any Romantic connection between the two of them.

If River is so afraid of the day when she'll meet the Doctor and he won't even know who she is, then why not just stay with her current Doctor? Why return to prison? It's not like they could find her, she could escape to anywhere in time and space.

I highly doubt that Matt Smith!Doctor dying is the Doctor's real death beyond which he wouldn't exist.
