The owner of bandaids site went to the NYE taping and she wrote a review, here's some parts:

Av's band started to take to the stage. Then I noticed Avril, Matt, and Amie by the side of the stage! At one point while I was looking over to their side, Avril gave me a big smile and waved! She's such a cutie .
Avril took to the stage to do her sound check shortly after. While she was coming on stage she came behind Rodney and gave him a hug . It was pretty adorable. After getting the sound levels set, they told us they were going to run through a rehearsal of What The Hell since it was their first time playing it with an audience! The song started and I was in complete awe.
really think this is one of the most well crafted singles Avril has ever put out. It's playful and catchy and everything you want in a rock anthem but it also really shows off Avril's vocals. When they finished the song, Avril said "That was our first time every playing this song live together" . You could tell she was excited!
After the sound check was completed, Avril started chatting and playing around with her band. They all seemed really happy to be back together! Then production announced they were having a problem with one of their camera lenses and would need to get a new lens before starting up. Avril said "Yessssss" and sat down on the front of Rodney's drum riser. She chilled for a little bit and then she got back up and started walking towards me!
Avril sort of half knelt on the stage (which I'm sure was very awkward given her dress!) and said that it was really nice to see me . I told her how awesome I thought What The Hell was and that it would definitely be huge and she seemed very happy to hear that! This was definitely one of the moments I wished my favourite concert buddy Adam was with me because he's much much much better at remembering details about conversations with Avril .
Avril started out by wishing everyone a happy ****ing new year . Then they kicked into What The Hell for real! Once again I was so impressed by the performance. Avril really had the crowd with her and she was very engaging! Avril flipped the middle finger a bunch of times during the performance but I'm sure that's going to be edited out . They finished off WTH and after a short break started playing Girlfriend. Once again the crowd was totally loving her .
Just before Avril left the stage she came over and gave me a half kneeling hug over the speakers and said she was very happy to see me . I thought it was a very sweet gesture! One of the many reasons I firmly believe Avril is one of the most considerate people (let alone celebrities) out there.
