I'd agree with that. Not a sequel you expect to be as entertaining as it was.

I love the first movie, but did not like the sequel.
For me the first movie had much better character development, better story, better written, better CGI, etc just overall much better, what Guillermo del Toro created with the first movie was truly special, even though it was clearly inspired by the classic Japanese Mecha & Kaiju genres. but he took the genre and made his own unique movie. But all the magic of the first movie was lost in the sequel IMO, I think the director of the sequel Steven S. DeKnight failed to understand Guillermo's artistry and visionary and style in the first movie, and he turned the sequel into just a cheap and generic Transformers/Power Rangers rip-off, I'm not surprised the sequel was a big flop at the box office, most people who love the first movie dislike the sequel. there were a few surprises in the sequel I didn't expect and I like the set up for the next one

considering how poorly the sequel did at the box office, I highly doubt a 3rd movie would be made, too many people disliked the sequel.
The only aspects I liked about the sequel were the return of the original casts from the first movie and John Boyega's performance as Jake Pentacost, everything else about the sequel was a waste of time for me. |
