A Discovery of Witches is a television series based on the All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness. It is named after the first book in the trilogy.

It stars Teresa Palmer and Matthew Goode.

I've watched the whole series (8 episodes). Once again, binge watching is easy when you don't have a life after work. :)

I like the characters and think the series is well paced. It is nice to have a vampire and witch drama that involves adults...not teens.

I would bingewatch it if it was on Netflix or Amazon. But it's on Sky

I signed up for a free trial of Sundance on Amazon.

There is a lot I like about this show.

My complaint would be that the show hasn't explained the abilities and limitations of vampires and demons. At this point, I don't understand why witches don't rule everything given their power.

I hope it's explained in the books?

I haven't read them...but I would hope so.

I may read them to find out. I assume the next season is many months away.


I am anxious to see how things go for them in the past. I assume they will still not be acceptable as a couple - due to their mixed species status.

it's funny that Matthew is called Matthew in real life too

I would think that would be a little weird for an actor.

I've watched this twice now. I really love it. I think the casting and acting is pretty great.

I ordered the books. They won't be here until next week.

I've been mostly reading fanfiction for years now so this will hopefully be a nice change...if they are good. Frankly, if they are not terrible I'll be pleasantly surprised. I haven't enjoyed any of the books that have been made into movies or TV shows of late, the source material for Twilight or TVD, for example.

I'm so with you on that! I find that fanfiction is oftentimes way way superior to any officially published books. I don't understand publishing companies, I really don't. But I'm assuming there's not much fanfic based on A Discovery of Witches.

For me it was The Last Kingdom that was my latest disappointment. Love the show so I tried to read the books and it just isn't there, the excitement.
I liked the TVD books, but it doesn't even seem like the same universe as the show.

when is the show back?

Season 2 just finished filming like two weeks ago and is now in post-production. It’s expected to be released by August or September of 2020, but no official date yet.

I love this show. I've read the books too. I need to rewatch the first season before the second season airs though. I'm sure I've forgotten stuff, I have a terrible memory. :blush:

I finally got the books for Christmas and have re-read them all already. I initially read them as they were first released, so the third was 2014, and I so forgot a ton of stuff too! :D
