I'm not sure what they were going for with Kelly Hu on DS....it surprised me that they casted someone like her for Julia and casted a rather plain looking actress for Victoria, especially given their roles on the original series.

Wasn't that pilot shortly after X2? Maybe they were going to ride her tidal wave of popularity.

Twilight isn't about vampires, it's about teenagers with sharp teeth.

Perhaps....I just think they wanted something drastically different from Grayson Hall's portrayal in the original. My personal wish for Julia was Robia LaMorte (Jenny from Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

Wait, were they going to remake this again? They tried once in the 90's but with all the desert storm coverage they kept pre-empting it and it never got the ratings.

It's going around that Johnny Depp is interested/in talks to play Barnabas Collins in a new Dark Shadows movie....if this pans out, it would be a dream come true for me.

Depp as Barnabas. Yes.

Here's a critic who seems to agree with you Cryostar:
Quote:
Question: I am ambivalent about hearing that Johnny Depp is going to play Barnabas Collins in a new theatrical version of Dark Shadows. I am sure that the movie will bring new blood into the franchise, but I don't think Dark Shadows is a good fit for the big screen. Dark Shadows has always been a long, continuous saga with many characters and storylines, and I don't believe you can simply make a two-hour Dark Shadows movie, no matter how great an actor Johnny Depp is. Do you believe that Dark Shadows is better suited for the big screen or the small screen?— James, Staten Island, NY

Matt Roush: Given that the last few attempts to remake Dark Shadows as a prime-time series failed (a short-lived remake on NBC and an aborted comeback on the WB), maybe a starry big-screen homage is the way to go. Besides, the original series spawned two movie spin-offs in the early '70s: House of Dark Shadows and Night of Dark Shadows. I can't pretend to be objective about them, having seem them in my early teens (if that) as an unabashed Collinwood junkie. (Haven't seen them since, so for all I know, they're actually awful.) But as long as you capture the ambience of the Dark Shadows mythology and tell a good story with the right cast (Johnny Depp is a great start), I don't see why this would be any more off base as a potential movie franchise than something like The X-Files. But is the premise of Dark Shadows better suited for an open-ended serialized drama? Absolutely. For now, though, that doesn't appear to be in the tarot cards.

Thanks for the update dukesmom...

I've noticed how much it's "quieted down" about this too...wonder if it got iced.

I'm watching the Revival show again and it's not as good as I remembered it. There's too much overacting and it's fairly weak. Cross is smooth as Barnabas, but not very relatable.

I think the Johnny Depp Dark Shadows movie is supposed to come out in 2012.

I never have watched the Depp movie - I caught 10 minutes or so of it once in my former work's break room, but that's it.

As excited as I originally was for Depp to play him, when it became obvious they'd turned it into a joke and parody I was completely out. And it put me off Depp even back then. He might as well have been called Barnabas Sparrow.

What really bugs is that after the Burton movie pretty much bombing, no one's seemed to want to touch the franchise - and with vampires on the way out (for now), there may not be a new revival for a long time, if ever.

As much as a Beetlejuice and Sleepy Hollow fan I am, there's no getting over what Burton and Depp did to Dark Shadows for me.
