Children Charged With Felonies Over Violent Drawings

Posted: 7:00 am EST January 26, 2005

Ocala, Fla. -- Two schoolboys in Florida are under arrest, accused of drawing violent stick figures that showed a classmate getting stabbed.

The 9- and 10-year-old boys from a special education class in Ocala were hauled away in handcuffs, charged with a felony of threatening another person.

Police said the child depicted in the pencil-and-crayon drawings complained to his teacher, who alerted school authorities who called

One drawing shows two children stabbing the boy with knives. Another shows the victim hanging, with tears falling from his eyes, Other pieces of paper contained the victim's name and misspelled profanities.

The land of the free.....

and the home of the downtrodden.

Man, America is turning into a scary place. As disgusting as those pictures sound, arresting the kids?

Besides, how can they tell who is who from stick figures?

This country is slowly going down the drain because people have become so jumpy over non issues. It's kind of funny that we're trying to give another country freedom while we're slowly losing ours.

They can charge kids who are only 9 and 10 in the USA? (here in Canada you have to be 12 to be charged with anything including murder)

I think a visit to the shrink or a some counselling would be more appropriate than charging them.

No offense...really...but it is a special ed class so maybe they didn't know what they were doing?

I mean...it's just stick figures. I used to draw stick figures and put the names of people i don't like on it....well...except my drawings didnt show anything morbid. I'm surprised though...two kids...9 and 10. Where do they learn this? Friday the 13th?

This almost seems like it's becoming a trend to handcuff and arrest elementary students, which is sad.

Why are they so obsessed with handcuffing children? Why?! Did the kids threaten the officers? They drew pictures. I think I'll rethink my trip to America and go elsewhere.

I'd actually prefer that to the new fad that seems to be going on where children are tasered.

Yes, That's my new favorite to!!

These kids are in special education class. It sounds like they might need therapy ... but not to be hauled off and handcuffed in the middle of class.

Special Education? I'm wondering if this class is for Mentally challenged? Or just not so bright (R.S.P Classes).
