Of course, there are some that are either more artistic or way too intelligent for me, because I'm still not sure I get them.

But, for the most part, I find they're almost too real to be funny.

The Republicans can only get political capital out of a sucktacular economy.

It's a minor detail, but the debt-ceiling negotiations (well, so-called negotiations anyway) have all been about how the Republicans won't let the President touch the military and Homeland security budget and how, per the Republicans, "compromises will have to be made."

But, since they won't allow military and Homeland Security budgets to even be discussed, those compromises automatically go to Social Security, health care and education.

So the Republicans are accusing the President and the Democrats of making the economy worse by refusing to cut taxes and the President and the Democrats look awful because they want everything to be on the table.

Hence, it looks better for the Republicans if the economy is in the crapper, so they'll make sure it stays in the crapper.
