Official Fan Forum Rules
Fan Forum Rules
1) No advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, or solicitations are allowed on our forums. Links to other message boards or pornography are not permitted. These actions are known as trolling. Posters engaging in this type of behavior will lose their membership rights and be removed. 2) Be respectful. Not everyone is going to agree with you at all times. It is perfectly fine to disagree with someone as long as it is done respectfully. Do not attack a poster for not agreeing with you. 3) If you have a problem with anything or any person at Fan Forum (including your board's moderator), please do not deal with it on the board. Send an e-mail or a Private Message (PM) to a Moderator, Manager, or Administrator. E-mail or PM the person you have a problem with directly if you do not want to involve Fan Forum staff. 4) Before starting a new thread, look to see if there already is a topic discussing the same thing. Duplicate threads will be closed down. Also, please make sure your thread title accurately reflects what the thread is about. 5) Do not post in all caps! That's considered Internet lingo for yelling. If a thread title or post is typed in all caps, it will be edited or deleted. dO nOt PoSt LiKe THiS, eItHEr. 6) Don't bump threads, or post solely to increase your post count. This is called "star posting," and doing it can result in the loss of posting privileges. 7) No spoilers are allowed except on the Spoilers board. Information is considered to be a spoiler if it details something that has not yet been broadcast anywhere in the world. Promos that have already aired are not considered spoilers. 8) Do not post the same picture over and over in a thread. Don't quote pictures -- if you quote someone, please edit out the image before submitting your reply. If you don't follow these rules, your picture(s) will be deleted. Also, please note that when you post pictures directly from another website, you’re basically using that site's bandwidth. Every time someone at FF views the picture on our boards, the owner of the website that hosts the image gets charged for bandwidth use. This is known as "bandwidth theft." We would prefer it if you'd post a text link to the picture using the [url] tag instead of displaying the picture in a post using the [img] tag, because then the owner of the website only gets charged for bandwidth if people click on the link. 9) Please do not start a thread asking how to post a picture or use other UBB code. We have a Questions and Answers board and a Newbies board where members can go for help and support; please take any questions you have about how the boards work there. Contact Information for the News and Politics Board If you have any questions or concerns, the Moderators for the News and Politics board are: Katis and Fieryangel Please contact them with any problems you may have. We also have a Management Team here at Fan Forum, and you can contact one of the Management Team members if you have any questions or concerns: Chi159 - Moderator Manager thelma - Moderator Manager Johnnie - Technical Support Manager Liz - Website Content Manager Raonaild - Systems Manager Jerry D - Administrator If you have any questions or concerns about site policy, or if the moderators on this message board are unavailable, please contact Chi159 or thelma. If you have any technical questions, please contact Johnnie. Thanks for posting, and have fun! __________________

Old thread was here. Everyone is still welcome to discuss their concerns in this thread - the last one was closed just to update the rules post.
Bringing over my last post from the last thread ... --------------- Look, folks ... it's been pretty quiet around here lately, and though I think there are a lot of reasons for that (changes at FanForum, what's in the news lately, etc), I think we have two main problems: 1) Discussions are very left/right polarized and constantly rehash old issues, where each side is so entrenched and practiced in their rhetoric that they sometimes ignore what's actually being said in the current discussion. 2) People are regularly complaining about posting ettiquette and board rules. For #1, I think N&P has always had that problem, but the board is a year old now and posters that have been around all that time have already argued through most of the major issues here at least once before. For anything involving Iraq or the Middle East in general, we've been over and over it many times, and at times the debate has gotten very angry and bitter. The solution to #1? I think people need to be patient and relax a little, and not immediately jump to the old bitterness whenever the issue comes up again. If threads involving topics like Iraq are just going to stress you out, I suggest avoiding them. I hate to say that, but at the end of the day this is just a message board, and it's not worth getting stressed about. I also think we need more light news threads. I'm personally bad with that - I tend to go for the serious and techy stuff, but I think we could all use a break and a good laugh every now and then. For #2 ... the problem for me is, if I'm constantly editing posts and scolding posters about their manners, people will stop posting because the atmosphere will get too oppressive. On the flip side, for people who are accused of being rude or disrespectful ... whether you feel you have been or not ... if others feel they're being attacked or disrespected, they will also eventually get fed up and stop posting to this board. While I'm sure some people think it would not be a bad thing if certain other people left ... the board is quiet enough these days as it is, every poster we loose makes it a little bit quieter. I personally don't want to loose any posters here ... even ones I strongly, consistently disagree with. Because when the big issues get debated, it isn't interesting if everyone agrees with you. The solution to #2? Again, I think everyone needs to back off and relax a little. This place should be fun, or at least interesting and informative. It shouldn't be painful and irritating. To clear up any confusion ...
I've recently taken on a position as a Super Moderator at FF, as the new sysadmin. As such, I don't have the time to dedicate to moderating this board as I once did, and there's an FF policy that SuperMods can't also Mod boards, so I've resigned as N&P mod. I leave you all in the excellent and capable hands of Katis. __________________
