Thanks, Sandi. Putting a date on it helps in interpreting the poetry.

Here's what I think about the poem: Assuming it's not purely hypothetical, it probably refers to Carly's break-up with her boyfriend. If I remember rightly, they kept up the relationship for a while after she moved away to LA, but it didn't work out. The poem has a quiet intensity and urgency. The metaphors are vigorous, the mood touched by a pensive flavor. The emotions are strong, but contained -they don't run wild. There's some emotional complexity involved -there's enthusiasm in her description of her attachment but it seems it's become a burden to her. Her feelings are mixed. Of interest is how the poem surprises you half-way. Starting as if a love poem, it suddenly shifts into a break-up poem, curiously echoing the way a relationship can break up without warning. I'm surprised she went public with this piece, pressure from the interviewer or no, seeing as it seems to deal with her private life. It's to her credit that she had the courage to read it out. Openly expressing personal, private things that weigh on you can sometimes help free you from the pressure of them. Does anyone know if she does any sort of writing other than poetry?

Glad you liked my comments on the poem, BLuR. As regards what I did in high/secondary school (we call it secondary school in Ireland -do you do that in Malaysia, too?), a study of literature was part of the English course, and there was some study of pieces of literature in courses on other languages. Oh, and don't worry about calling me sumsum. After all, I'd find it kinda useful if there were two of me -could get a lot more done!
