Buffy the Vampire Slayer The Movie (1992)

I love how the show introduced a character that was successful enough to have it's on spinoff show. That shows hows popular it was during its airing.

Hey there! Welcome to Fan Forum! Be sure to check out the Info Center for extra information for new posters!

I'm a little confused, are you talking about the Buffy movie?

ETA: I don't know what to do about this thread really, but there wasn't a discussion for the old BtVS movie, so I thought I would change this into one.

Have you seen the original BtVS movie? Did you like it?

I remember seeing the movie in 95 in junior high because our class voted for it for our reward for being good.

Loved it since it came out, when I was little everytime I'd go to the video store, I'd always rent it, watched it so much I can quote every line in the movie, and I had the biggest crush on Luke Perry so of course I loved the movie. I thought Kristy Swanson was really good as Buffy. This is the movie that got the tv show started so I think it belongs to the board.

Its the main reason I got started into the whole Buffy mythology in the first place.

I used to watch it when I was like 5.

...Over. And over. And over.

But in case you guys didn't know, Joss actually pulled out of production on the movie halfway through, over creative clashes with the producers. They wanted to change a whole lot of Joss's humour...and everything that makes the series perfect. So in some parts you can definitely see that Joss was involved...But it explains why the movie was actually a huge flop when released. It's done much better on dvd.

...Still love it, though.

Jen, I think ChrisCMMi meant they had Angel get his own spin-off from the show

But anyway, the movie was on last night. I don't think it was very fulfilling but I also don't think it was half as bad as critics say. Even though some scenes were a little... cringe-worthy. Luke and Kristy had good chemistry.

Well, it would be nice in the comics right now if Pike came and made a surprise visit to see Buffy.

Ohhhhhh oh well, I don't think that they'll be coming back so I guess it doesn't matter.

I always thought that Buffy & Pike would stay in touch... I wonder.

Can't Get Enough of those Vampires

Exactly!! What I meant was the movie was so popular that people really wanted a series out of it. I just wish the show had the same characters as the movie It would have been awesome to see the romance between Buffy and Pike continue They were a great pair in killing those vampires!

An excellent point, but I think following too closely with the movie that forced Joss to compromise his initial brilliant vision could have really messed with the quality series we ended up with!

It definitely would have been interesting to see the Buffy/Pike thing turn out though. Hey...Pike...Spike...

Maybe they were giving a nod to Pike there by introducing Spike? Or maybe I'm grasping at straws...

I liked the movie, but it didn't live up to my expectations, Buffy did. It was a good story and a good movie, but somehow I wished they had done more to make it succesfull, the difference with Buffy, the show was, that they gave their all to make it the best show possible, and that did live up to my expectations

After being a huge Buffy fanatic for years, I finally broke down a couple of months ago and watched the Buffy movie for the first time. I really didn't like it much. It was really weird to see the differences in the movie from the tv series. Especially the movies' take on Watchers. I think the movie would have definitely been a whole lot better if the company hadn't ruined it by fighting with Joss over the humor, etc.

I think I'll just be sticking with the tv show like I've always been.

I don't think there's a single Buffy fan who actually prefers the movie over the series
