Totally agree
 - I always liked Spuffy and Angel/Cordy or Angel/Darla over Bangel. Bangel was okay for the first couple of seasons, but after he came "back" it was clear that things just weren't the same between them. I loved Spuffy from their alliance in "Becoming" onward  .__________________

I've been watching a lot of Angel recently, and I kinda want to smack Whedon in the face for not giving them a proper chance. She was SO good for him. Like the scene in the S2 premiere when he was in brood mode, she gave him a pep talk and told him she knew he could make it, and that she would be with him till he did. She even got him to crack a joke, Angel of all people. Cordy was exactly what Angel needed, she refused to take his crap and she could get a smile out of him just by being around and being herself. I know a happy ending would never happen in Whedon world, but they at least deserved a genuine shot at being together like Spuffy were. Such a wasted opportunity.

Spuffy didn't actually get a shot either.
I've never been really disappointed in them. Spuffy got the best everything in the Jossverse to me though. There was an open ending and after Joss saying recently they are his fave ship. I think that basically is as close to endgame you can get from him.  It makes me believe that Spuffy is the couple he wants to end up together. Joss also called Bangel boring and a kiddie ship.  Cangel though had such wasted potential.  They are still in my top 5 fave ships ever though. It weird how much I love him for Spuffy but hate him for what he did to Cangel. It's still not the worst ending since she died and in the Jossverse you can easily come back. I've had worse luck with my ships than that too. Dair!  __________________

Another parallel between them is Buffy saying to Spike "That's not why I need you here" in First Date and Angel saying to Cordy "That's not why I need you" in That Vision Thing.
