How Has Being a BtVS Fan Affected Your Life?

Question is in the title.

1. Whenever anyone called during "buffy time" they got hung up on.
2. I could not plan or schedule anything during "buffy time" that included studying for a test the following day.
3. I posted so much on FF that the people on FF remembered my birthday and my own family did not!
4. There were no interruptions or distractions during "Buffy time".

*lol, those were a few of my crazy obsessive behaviour when Buffy was on air!

BtVS has affected my life in that I have developed fantastic friendships due to mutual love of the show. Not only with my friend who introduced me to the series but to all the friends I've made online as well.

It has opened my eyes to writing on television shows. I never paid attention to it before - now I notice particular styles, themes, metaphors, etc...

It gave me my generation version of Romeo&Juliet with Buffy & Angel. I can't imagine finding anything more beautifully poetic and moving.

It affected me, by making me a fan of Joss who now seeks out all of his work.

It developed my David Boreanaz obsession. Which my husband probably is not nearly as grateful for.

I'm gonna sound like one of those freaks when I say this, but Buffy saved my life. No I wasn't sitting somewhere with the knife over my wrist and then all of a sudden Buffy came on the TV and my life suddenly had meaning, it's not like that. Not at all.

But Buffy came on the TV at a time when I was going through difficulties in my life. I got my first taste of what could truly be described as an escape into an other world. And I can't describe it, but it started the change in my life. I got brave enough to make the decision to go away for high school. I got away from the problems, got some space. I dunno what would've happened if I had stayed where I was. My guess is the problems would've just built up bit by bit and even though I don't view myself as suicidal, who knows how desperate I'd end up to be.

Some of the most important social connections I've made has been made through the shared interesst for the show, some of the best experiences in my life has also happened through some weird side (and some with the more direct) connection with the show.

It got the ball rolling, the catalyst that started the change and I am forever grateful.

I am now a happy 22 year old, who's completely on the right path socially and educationally. Most of my dreams have already come true and those who haven't are mostly within possible reach if I just work hard enough.

If Buffy hadn't been in my life, I'm not even sure I'd be alive anymore, I can't say for sure... All I know if that my life changed drasticly and I know that was a change for the better. And I'll be forever gratefull. So yes, being a BtVS fan has clearly affected my life, but most of it, almost all of it, is good.

I talked about Buffy all the time; at school and at home.
I collected Buffy merchandise or went crazy when I seen something in a store that happened to be Buffy related.
I spent hours at a time watching Buffy from all the tapes I recorded of it.
I used to pretend I was Buffy.

I'm sure there are more, lol.

It got me interested in the vampire genre. I'd read a couple of books in middle school, but it wasn't until Buffy came on that I went on to discover and enjoy more vampire novels, television shows and films...

During my early high school years, Buffy influenced how I dressed. I loved the fashions in the first three seasons of the show. I also had some of the jewelry in their brief Buffy fashion line. My best friend and I would speak "Buffy" and use the terms and slang from the show. I used 5 by 5 all the time.

I collected some of the merchandise and had an Angel poster in my room. I was a big Buffy fan.

I was obsessed with the show before I discovered the internet. Talking about Buffy with other people online made me realise that I wasn't on the right path with what I wanted to do. I started making Buffy art and realised that I'm an artistic person. Making my Buffy site also made me realise that I also like web work and this is what inspired me to start a degree in Digital Media (design, web, graphics etc).

It also made me fail most of my exams when I was at school because I was on here most of the time, but I think that more good has come out of me being a Buffy fan than bad. I've met so many great people because of it and it has made me alot more confident than I was before.
