It did show the change he had when he had the soul. He was the same for the most part but moments like that really showed the difference and how differently he saw things and he fell in love with Buffy even more and was more selfless.

Spike's love for Buffy became completely selfless.

So much that he died for her & the world.



The difference it could have made if Spike had already won his soul back in Season 6.



This moment was beautiful to me b/c Spike saved Buffy from burning up dancing & then how he sang that she had to live so one of us is living actually foreshadows their last moment & this time Spike saves her again by burning up saving the world.



I truly believe this we were meant to think about that moment in OMWF in their final moment together. Joss does that kind of thing all the time in his writing. Not saying that he planned Spike to die although considering Joss planned Season 5 way back in Season 3 that he already planned for Spike's death even back in Season 6 wouldn't shock me though.

So many questions I would love to ask Joss about Spuffy.

What I take away from this is that Buffy thinks Spike is too good for Harmony and thinks Spike can do better romantically. Kind of a funny thing to think about your 'enemy'.

Buffy was totally saying Spike could do better than Harmony!

I don't care what anyone says I think Buffy wanted Spike even then.

She wouldn't admit it of course but at that point neither would Spike.

We saw so many times where James played Spuffy subtext from the moment he first saw Buffy.

I mean he even admitted that moment he played a sexual undercurrent.

I think SMG played Spuffy though too in subtext.

I think Joss was writing Spuffy in some way from the start & didn't realize it.

Like in the way he didn't see it with Fuffy.

This scene screams frack me!



A lot of it is b/c of the way SMG & JM played it.

I think there definitely was an unwanted attraction there. But, like you said, she in no way would admit it to herself.

Their chemistry jumps off the screen. There's that saying, there's a fine line between love and hate and these two really walked it, didn't they?
Even when they were enemies, there was something there. There were moments when their actions/words showed more than they wanted to let on.

Like when Buffy said to Riley "If I wanted to date a super hero, I'd be dating Spike!" Like, really Buffy? Out of everyone in the world you could've mentioned, and you choose Spike? No one else brought him up. That was all her. That's where her mind automatically went.

Or the millions of times Spike admires Buffy/compliments her even as he's planning to kill her.


Yep. And that's part of why it feels so organic and woven into the fabric of the show...bc it basically wrote itself.

There's such a sexual undercurrent to all of their scenes. Especially since we know Spike equates violence with sex. Slaying also makes Buffy hungry and horny...lol. Fighting for them is not like how it is for 'normal' people. We know part of Buffy likes fighting and gets off on it. And someone of her skill level would appreciate fighting a worthy opponent like Spike.

We were talking about School Hard last night a bit too, and it prompted me to read the scooting script.

Some stuff I really liked:

Spike originally called her 'baby' not luv. Don't get me wrong, I prefer luv, because it came to be one of his nicknames for her...but Spike calling Buffy baby? I don't hate it. He also calls Dru 'baby' in the episode...so interesting he was already putting Buffy on a level with Dru in a way...That might be me reading into it, I don't care lol.

The figure steps out of the shadows. It's not Angel, it's Spike. He circles through the dancers, moving closer and closer, staying out of Buffy's line of sight, never taking his eyes off her. A hunter stalking his prey.

Never taking his eyes off of her...I mean, is that foreshadowing or what? Once he fell for Buffy, she was it, she was "the one". And something started the moment he first saw her.

A moment's hesitation crosses his face, and he HURLS HIMSELF at her. Fast.
And now the punches fly, fast and furious. Think Gross Pointe Blanke. Two pros giving it all they've got.

Yes, love it. Throws back to what I've been saying. As warriors/fighters, they recognize each other on the battlefield.

On a random note, I'm glad they cut this Spike line of dialogue: "And I need a party. Man, I'm restless. Can't wait to ice that Slayer." For some reason, Spike saying 'can't wait to ice this Slayer' cracks me up.

And one bit from the Halloween shooting script:

Spike turns to see Drusilla, who has wandered in with one of her dolls. She is pouty, dreamy as usual. Spike welcomes her - but his attention stays on the video of Buffy.

Dru was already losing him. His Buffy fascination was already beginning.

I love Buffy calling Spike honey here then later Spike in Season 7 in a diff. context calling her honey.

That shows how much their relationship evolved from enemies Season 2 to basically a married couple in Season 7.



It's cute how excited Buffy is to always fight Spike b/c he was an actual challenge for her.




Good points about the attraction & fighting.

It's diff. for Spuffy b/c the slayer/vampire thing.

It's a good thing in a way b/c they can practice fighting together.

It still think it was a miss opp. for us not to get to see Spike help train Buffy fighting.

I always liked when Spike says Baby likes to play watching Buffy in Halloween.

I like Luv better than Baby for the first time he saw her fighting though.

I will say JM certainly played a lot more than was in the shooting script when he saw Buffy dancing.

I feel like he is looking at his something Effulgent we later know that he was searching for his entire existence. That's what I see from Spike's POV of Spuffy.

Buffy really was his light too & loving her brought him out of the darkness.



It also explains why Spike was so lost Season 6 in darkness b/c Buffy was & he looked to her as to what was right/wrong before he realized only a soul could do this.

Too bad things had to get so bad between them for him to realize it.


Oh yeah that line to Riley about Spike is a good example of Buffy must have thought about being with Spike for her to point him out like that.
