B.A.T.S #36: She's like a superhero or something!

~*Welcome To The Buffy/Sarah Appreciation Thread*~

(banners by Neta)

Welcome to our SMG/Buffy Anne Summers thread! PLZ don't bash her or any of the posters here! and don't be shy!

Quotes about Sarah

Joss Whedon, creator:

"At first we thought of her as Cordelia. But after she read it quickly became apparent she was the one." (on casting Buffy)

"What Sarah brings to the part is her intelligence, at the same time, she's got that hormonal, idiosyncratic goofiness that makes Buffy not just the Terminator."

"Sarah has been doing this for her whole life, and that could make a person completely strange and ...stupid. But Sarah thinks about the whole picture. She could direct. She could produce. She can do all of those things very ably. She's as good an actress as I've ever worked with, and believe me when I say that I am as bitter a man about actors as you will ever meet."

"She's like the best actress ever!"

"Buffy is a very loopy, very funny, very strange person--kind of eccentric. Sarah has all those qualities and you don't find them in a beautiful, young girl very often. She gave use a reading that was letter perfect."

"It's a little hard, a little bit overwhelming, and a little daunting, but she's handling it well."(refering to the show workload)

"There was no second place. We read tons of people and several were staggeringly untalented. Buffy is tough part. It is a character actress in the part of a leading lady...finding Buffy was the biggest challenge, and I think if we hadn't found Sarah, the series might not have happened or lasted."

"My attitude is that the show isn't so good that it's worth anybody getting hurt for it. Sarah is always covered with bruises and I'm always saying, 'Sarah, don't do this stuff. We'll get the close-up of you saying the funny thing after.' 'No, no, I can do it,' she says, and then she gets this giant black-and-blue-mark on her arm. 'Sarah, stop. Please!"

"She's like a businesswoman, in a sense, she loves the acting and gets off on it in a fun, artistic way. But she's also very focused in the Tom Cruise, 'I have an agenda' way. She makes it her business to make it her business."

David Boreanaz, Angel:

"She was, I mean working with her is great. The three seasons that we worked together, we never had an argument. I mean that's pretty odd, um -since we were in such close quarters, both of our characters. But, you know she's here in my heart, and that's the best thing about it. And she's actually given me the opportunity to be here where I am today. I mean her character, her show, enabled me to grow and become another character so I owe a lot to her."

?This really is all thanks to Sarah.? (refering to the popularity of Btvs and being able to spin off Ats)

"She is a terrific girl, I owe her so much for my career. She was so generous with me."

Taken from Teen people, Oct. 99, "'She [SMG] knows all these little things," says David Boreanaz, who plays the love of Buffy's life - who say he has her to thank for finding a great sushi restaurant, "She could bend your ear for hours."

"She is perfect, she's so small and so easy to hold. And yes... she is a great kisser."

"David: (nostalgic) Sarah is?she's?one of the things I will miss the most about shooting the show is working with Sarah. We've created a special bond between the two of us that, um, is unique and different. She has the ability to transform herself very quickly, very professionally, and very openly, which makes it easier for another actor to kind of?ride along with her. She comforts you, and gives you a sense of who you are as a person, and not as an actor. Which is, I feel, the best thing to have. She's just a wonderful presence, and she's very strong in what she does. She exudes a lot of confidence and?and it shows. I'll miss that a lot."

James Marsters, Spike:

Big Hit: One million people would murder me if I didn't ask, what's it like kissing Sarah?
James Marsters: If I answer that truthfully, Freddie Prinze Jnr will kick my ass! With a baseball bat... and he would have good reason to do so.
Big Hit: Freddie's not like that!
James Marsters: What?! If I was dating Sarah, I would be like that. God! Sarah is an absolute dream. A lead of a TV series has the power to make the set a nightmare or heaven. Sarah has chosen to use her powers to make it heaven. She's always on time. She always knows her lines. She's always wonderful to work with. She's always fresh. She's always jovial. You know, nobody really wants to push her around but other than that she's a dream. Truthfully. And kissing her was no chore!

"She is so cool. She's the best. On the set, if you don't have a director's chair with your name on it you end up sitting on the floor and being in everyone's way, which just causes more stress. Neither Juliet nor I had chairs. Sarah finally went up to the producers and said, 'Look, these guys have done seven episodes so far, they are going to be in it until the end of the season, can we get them some chairs? I'll pay for them.' I thought that was so classy. She's very intelligent, very strong, and very articulate. Basically, she makes 22 one-hour movies a year and she always knows her lines. She's in almost every shot. I can't say enough about her. I like her a lot as a person and as a co-worker. To some people she has a bit of a boundary because she's a big star and people will take from her as much as she's willing to give, so she protects herself because she needs to."

"I don't think its changed really... as a working environment you mean? Ah not really. Sarah sets the tone of the set pretty much. That's one of the great things about the show (for me working on it), is that Sarah; beyond being an incredibly gifted actor - who I think is also completely underrated, she is a consummate professional. Ah she, if she is having a broken heart and horrible day, if her great grandmother just died, if she just had a fight with her boyfriend, you'd never know it, unless you're a very good friend - like me, and you talk about it later. And she always shows up on set with her lines, completely down, to the point where she cannot say them wrong. She's always on time, she's always pleasant and she's always looking after some of the people who have less power than she does and making sure they're treated with respect as well. So that has been my experience from day one on Buffy and that has not changed at all".

"I've told Sarah this, that when Buffy is saying to Angel, "There's not enough time. There's not enough time." I said to Sarah that she was so beautiful in that scene because she was real. She wasn't worried about looking glamorous or anything like that, she was very real."

Others:

"We do, but Sarah [Michelle Gellar] does not always have a lot of time to spend. I mean, she works more than any of us on the show, so when she has free time sometimes she comes out with us, but not a lot."?Anthony Stewart Head

"I've known Sarah for quite a few years, she's great, the ultimate professional, extremely talented, and a lot of fun to be around. A lot of fun on the set, and very caring too. She can tell you the best places to go shopping, the best places to get whatever you need." ?Julie Benz

"Sarah's like a 40-year old woman trapped in a 17-year old body. She's wise way beyond her years. She's a very loyal, very loving friend. And she's very professional. It's rare to see someone her age who's that focused about her work." ?Eva La Rue

"I didn't have to push very hard because we fell in love with her, too. It's a juicy little part and she's rocking. I want her in every one of my movies because you know when you hire her to do a job she's not going to be in her trailer complaining about everything. She's going to be right out there giving you the tenth take in the freezing cold."?Kevin Williamson about Sarah's role in Scream 2

"Sarah has emerged in to this beautiful, successful young woman. She's thriving. I feel very proud. She seems to be very intelligent and curious about the world. Even though she has had this great success, it doesn't seem to have narrowed her. It seems to have opened her up, and I hope she stays open and does whatever she wants to do with the rest of her life."?Stockard Channing to INSTYLE

"Sarah strikes me as someone who is restlessly inclined to new discovery"?James Toback, Harvard Man director in "Glamour"

"I'm a big Sarah Michelle Gellar [Buffy the Vampire Slayer] fan. Huge. I love her. She's gorgeous. I see her Maybelline ads, and I'm like, 'How can she be that pretty?'" ?Kirsten Storms from Days of our lives.

"Sarah is unbelievable. Wonderfully talented and a wonderful person and she's been doing it since she was a foot high. She knows everything. She's always prepared; she's always on time; she always know her words, when there are words to know, she knows everything about every single camera and every single nut and bolt. She knows this business. She's such a nice person even though we work in a situation that some other actors and directors would find frustrating it gets done and that's the amazing part."?Harry Groener aka "The mayor" in "The Watcher's Guide Vol. 2"

"Whether it's that kind of scene (love) or a scene where Sarah and I are fighting a demon, that girl is one of the most professional people on the planet. She has a way of not only setting you at ease but also getting you in the right mental framework. Those can be hard days if you don't approach it with a light tone and even be a little giddy at times, because I'm a hundred pounds heavier than she is a there's gonna be some elbows and some knees in places that are just odd. Be it because you're laying on top of each other, or not to get in someone's light or be aware of where the camera is. So if you can have fun with it but at the same time not lose your passion and intensity, that's important. And she's been there and she held my hand through the whole thing, literally and figuratively. Hopefully the scene came out a success. If they did, it's because she gets the drill, not me."?Marc Blucas in "The Watcher's Guide Vol. 2"

"I love working with her- she is really talented, always prepared and a total veteran! We work well together, we have great chemistry- it's like our own family, we are very close!?Charisma Carpenter

"Sarah's great, really smart. She's doing a movie now, and she has no social life when she's working".?Charisma Carpenter

"Sarah's a sexy firecracker, super witty and really on top of things."-Jennifer Love Hewitt

"She knows everything, she works so many hours, doesn't have a break and is still on top of everything. It's scary."?Alyson Hannigan in Rollingstone

"She's super nice and super professional"?Amber Benson

"Sarah's very smart when it comes to showbusiness. She knows everybody in Hollywood and what they're working on. We're all amazed at how much information she can obtain!"?Alyson Hannigan

"She's like the perfect mother in a teenage body"?Alyson Hannigan from "Slay belle" article

"She has been the kind of team player that any network would love. She's a pro"?Brad Turell, executive vice president of publicity and talent relations at The WB from Christian Science Monitor

"Your acting is Perfect."?Howard Stern to Sarah on The Howard Stern show

Did you enjoy working with Sarah?
LB: I did enjoy working with Sara, in fact at about the time my wife and I were getting married I was working on the show and Sara was nice enough to send us a wedding gift. she was always sweet to me and alot of fun on set, she is great, does anybody know if she is working on scream 3 right now? ?Larry Bagby

29? I thought she was like 25 and really she doesn't even look that to me.

Unless I misread something, I think ABC killed Freddie. I'm pretty sure I didn't see it on the fall lineup they announced this past week. If so, thank God for that. We won't have to worry about her wasting her time appearing on that piece of dreck.

As to the first question, Freddie was Freddie Prinze Jr.'s very boring sitcom on ABC. Which he kept claiming his wife wanted to appear on. Why he didn't want her to is a different question and may say more about him than he'd like us to know. Now that it's hopefully dead, it's a moot question.

As to the second question, I have no idea.

And if you guys think 29 is old? Umm, no. Trust me on that one. When I was 29, Reagan was president - and I'm not old yet.

Ok people, see this post:

"what does BATS stand for?" Calling this thread just "B.A.T.S." is a bad idea. No wonder it doesn't get much posting. New posters don't know what it is and move on to threads they do understand Even posters who've been on the board a while often haven't checked it out. Threads with abbreviations for a title are a turn-off. Please let's put "Buffy/SMG Appreciation" (or even just "Buffy/SMG") in the title. If it all fits we can include "B.A.T.S" too. Or else we can just include the "B.A.T.S." thing inside the thread in the first post. But please le'ts put "Buffy/SMG" in the title.

A lot of people won't get to the first post, because they'll see an unknown abbreviation on the board and they won't be interested in checking it out. A lot of people who might be interested in posting on a Buffy/SMG appreciation thread won't come here because they won't know this is one. If it said "Buffy/SMG" or "Buffy/SMG appreciation" in the title they might come in to the thread.

I guess we could put "Buffy/SMG (B.A.T.S)" or something like that... But I'll leave it to the original thread starter.

It's on the master thread list... and I don't want to mess with tradition. It's been 'B.A.T.S' since before I joined Fan Forum.

And most people don't come here because Sarah Michelle Gellar has a whole board to discuss things about her.
