I’ve been moaning for a year now about how stupid Fox was to cancel “24” in 2010 then in 2012 hire Kiefer Sutherland for “Heroes” mastermind Tim Kring’s much-lower-rated “Touch.”

Maybe someone was listening!

Hours after announcement of the cancellation of “Touch” (which airs its final episode tomorrow) comes a story from Deadline indicating that Sutherland is in talks with Fox to reprise his role as counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer for a “limited series” version of 24.

I think that means miniseries. Maybe it means 15-episodes seasons like the ones Sutherland’s “A Few Good Men” co-star Kevin Bacon is locked into for Fox’s “The Following”?

Longtime "24" showrunner Howard Gordon (now busy on a host of other TV projects, including "Homeland"), is still under contract at Fox and is expected to supervise the revival should it more forward.

Fox has been trying since long before "24" was cancelled to launch "24" as a big-screen franchise, but apparently no one could agree on the script that would reunite Sutherland with Mary Lynn Rajskub.

The new series would not utilze any of the many script drafts intended for the stalled "24" movie.

I know! We need it confirmed and to know exactly how many episodes it will have, if it's going to be less than 24 episodes then I'm intrigued to see how it will work compared to the usual format.

If it does happen and it's like 15 episodes or something, I guess some hours will just take place in 2 hours format... 48 minute episode filling in 2 hours, sometimes.

Kiefer has released a frankly awesome statement:

I heard it won't go as long as the original series though. I think they're gonna skip some hours. Anyway, it's great news.
