They work great with savory but you need the balance for sure. The best dishes have a little of every taste without going too far in one or another. It's like salted caramel I guess. You pick up the sweetness by adding a little salt. Well, I do the other way around with fruits in salads.

Salted caramel is not just done right in the States. They just add salt. Real salted caramel is made with salted butter and it's sooo different. But I see your point.
