I still have many to watch but I would recommend Nashville and M*A*S*H*. And also Short Cuts and The Player
Thanks

So I watched Psycho yesterday (finally!). I was always too afraid to watch it alone and had time to watch it with with my friend. It wasn't that scary actually, but the ending scene, wow

I also watched Mrs Miniver, now I know from where Fellowes ripped off the flower show plot in DA

Psycho and The Shining are my favorite horror movies, but it is impossible to watch them alone!

You were talking about M*A*S*H*, I have this one on my must-watch movie list since ever!

I’ve watched The Visitor yesterday and I was stunned by Richard Jenkins performance. Does anyone know if there is another movie (or movies) with him as the leading actor? I couldn't find any besides this one Thomas McCarthy surprised me again!

You mean movies that are really a collection of shorts with separate stories but you find out at the end that everyone knows everyone else and which only goal is to cram as many celebrities in one movie as possible? Cause Altman was doing that long before Love Actually really.

And how about Sidney Lumet? And i could go back to Woody Allen

There's really only one movie I've seen that hit the mark (and only has a few casting missteps) and that was Crash.
That's a good one!

I watched Ordet yesterday, such an incredible movie the way they approached faith was very interesting to me.
I also watched Playing by Heart, one of those Love Actually kind of movies we were talking about. However, I loved it (never underestimate my love for bad movies). I mean, *spoiler alert* Sean Connery was Gillian Anderson's father and she was making out with Jon Stewart and Michael Emerson was her friend. Oh and Angelina Jolie her sister. The dialog was cringeworthy most of the time but have I mentioned that Sean Connery was Gillian father and Gillian/Jon were super cute? I'm a lost cause

I can't even imagine the impact it must have had at the time considering what was considered "scary" back then in movie

you don't watch a lot of scary movies, do you?
I'm being mean, sorry The movies that scare me the most are all about atmosphere and tension. I really don't get how buckets of fake blood and people hacking other people to pieces is scary. Gross, yeah. Scary?

Ironically enough I saw the tv show before I saw the movie!

and it's a crying shame. The movie is excellent and Jenkins (and the rest of the cast) really give it their all. I was hoping the movie would catapult him out of character actor purgatory the way American Splendor and Sideways did for Giamatti but that didn't happen.

Well Woody Allen's movies (before the most recent ones) were often character centric even if he used similar techniques. And of course there were others. Altman is mostly known for it though, so that's why I mentioned him.

yeah except it was made 5 years before Love Actually so yeah again... they didn't invent the concept

And Geena Rowlands is her Mom!
But yeah the movie's not too bad. The dialog (and Ryan Philippe) is ludicrous at times though

Oh you are talking about Psycho When I watched it I already knew everything, what a shame I had been spoiled by my parents And the same happened to me with "The Sixth Sense". I already knew that Burce Willi's character was dead. It sucks

that is so wrong! Parent!
I have my problems with Sixth Sense. That twist is the biggest one.

well HotShot Deux spoiled me about the Crying Game (on purpose in the credits! )
And the good thing about Sixth Sense is that it was really just tacked on so it doesn't ruin the movie to know that.

Well the plot doesn't make sense from the get-go.
When he meets the kid, he's hiding in church because he feels safer there. Because he's scared ****less because he sees dead people. And here comes that dead guy talking to him and he doesn't react at all? He treats him like a regular person?

It gets worse when you see the deleted scenes.

That's the problem with most of Shamalayan's movies. He likes to think of himself as Hitchcock but unlike Hitchcock, he rigs the game from the start.
Like the Village. Same thing. Not going to spoil it for those who haven't seen it but the first thing you see in the movie is a lie that makes no sense in the context of the movie, just to keep the audience fooled until the big reveal!

True, that's what doesn't make sense, so the kid didn't realise he was a ghost too ? or he decided not to tell him ?

I haven't seen that movie yet I will watch it asap !

ETA: Oops, sorry for the double post, I can swear I saw Fluff's post above my last one
