Everwood Fans who are Dawson/Joey & Pacey/Andie Fans of Dawson's Creek #36: When an actor edits the series finale you know it’s going to be hideous.

This is an appreciation thread for Everwood fans who are also Dawson/Joey & Pacey/Andie fans. For those who shipped these pairings, the series once had such great promise, but ended up being one of the most disappointing series to date. TPTB enjoyed manipulating the heart and soul of the old school (seasons 1/2) Dawson's Creek audience, who embraced the premise and the main pairings of the show; Dawson/Joey and Pacey/Andie fans. The first two seasons defined Dawson's Creek. Season 3 came along and the show simply wasn't the same anymore. New showrunner who essentially mocked the premise, destroyed the main pairings, and was basically just fine with dropping the quality in order to make the series his own. We know the drill. Discussing our main pairings, as well frustrations over storylines, writing, TPTB, fandom in general, is all welcome here.

Note: This is not a debate thread with other ships. This thread is strictly for Dawson/Joey & Pacey/Andie fans to appreciate the pairings and discuss aspects of the show, both good and bad. This thread was originally created to celebrate friendships between a couple of regulars on the Everwood board who, back in the day, posted on the Dawson's Creek board and encountered some terrible fan wars and not so great moments. We wanted a safe place to discuss our thoughts here on the Everwood board. That is how this thread was created. Jerry D, our amazing Administrator, and my very good friend, came up with the idea and the rest is history. For those of you who ship other pairings and don't agree with the content of this thread, of course there's the Dawson's Creek board and other threads scattered throughout Fan Forum perfectly designed for you.

Thanks!

Dawson and Joey thoughts written by Jerry:
A Story of Soulmates: The Legend of Dawson and Joey

Alternate S5 & S6 : He made a solemn promise he would come and visit her. Hell, he even jotted it down in indelible black ink onto the crisp pages of her brand new journal while wearing a big toothy grin on his face, but regardless, it had been months since Pacey had made any contact with Andie. Andie forced herself not to overthink it and chalked it up to life getting in the way, but the smallest embers inside of her heart that yearned for him still despite everything that happened between them started to prickle at the back of her head. Although once the orientation process at Harvard was over and the real work began, Andie’s thoughts of Pacey Witter were sidelined in order to make room for the mountains and mountains of schoolwork she was receiving on a daily basis.

That was until, out of the blue, Pacey literally came sailing back into her life looking tanned, well rested, and even more gorgeous. Andie vowed to never let herself fall back in love with Pacey, she made an ironclad pledge to herself to never stray back into that hornet’s nest, but his soft, warm gaze pointed in her direction had Andie convinced his heart was remembering the way it used to love her.

She was one hundred percent correct in her assumptions.

The laughter between them settled into a deep warmth and easiness, and they talked well into the wee hours of the night and gradually, the intimacy they once coveted as a couple so long ago had returned to their bodies in triplicate. It started with Pacey’s hand brushing up against hers when she handed him a magazine from a convenience store shelf, which then evolved into their hugs becoming longer and more needy each time they touched. Soon enough, Pacey did the unthinkable, and asked Andie a question she never thought she’d hear again in her life from him…

Pacey Witter had asked her out on a date.

At first, they had both agreed to not invest too much of themselves into the date, stating an urge to take things as slow as they could in order to protect themselves from any harmful fallout, but Pacey and Andie’s mutually intense bedroom eyes that screamed “make love to me.” seemed to tell another story altogether. The immense pain of potentially opening up old wounds over how their relationship crumbled in the past fell to the wayside as Pacey and Andie ended up having passionate, raw, soul searing sex in Andie’s shower. Every single iota of mistrust, devastating heartbreak, and bad memories in their past circled its way down the drain.

And as Andie sat by her vanity, drying her hair and watching Pacey getting ready for bed, she smiled to herself. At long last, she finally felt like she could breathe again.

Thanks for the new thread Michelle! I love the title! It's so true!

I love what you and Anna said about A Winter's Tale! That was the only episode of Dawson's Creek that I purposely never watched. I used to do episode commentaries for every episode of the show because I moderated the Dawson's Creek board back then, and when that episode aired, my commentary consisted of the following words: Didn't watch it. Never will.

You were so smart not watching that disaster, Jerry. Whatever you imagine it to be, I promise you, it is 10 times worse. I never should have watched that garbage. It wasn’t even PJ on the screen, it felt like the Josh and Katie show. It almost looked like they were playing out some real life past relationship. It was so vomit-inducing. Not to mention how insulting it was to the entire DJ story. Also, PA and their first time was beautiful (based on how it was described) so to see how much time was dedicated to Josh/Kate PJ in this joke of an episode is so vile and nightmarish. It was just gross. This episode was, hands down, the worst episode of the series, including Joey singing to her mugger!

LOL! I remember the P/Jers crowing about that episode and saying it was so beautiful, but the whole concept of it disgusted me, and the episode that followed it was so crass, where Pacey talked to Joey in crude terms about being “Neil Armstrong” while munching on chips brought the show to a new low. Dawson’s Creek really became such a joke once Williamson left and Stupin took over.

The morning after (and next episode) was so vile. Could you imagine if Dawson is Pacey there? The PJ fans would have destroyed him with words. But it was fine because Pacey walked on water and they made excuse after excuse for all his endless mistakes. In general, Joey literally had to talk herself into going there with Pacey and afterwards she looked like she was filled with regret. It was such a disaster. I think it was during this moment, when officially the series was completely destroyed. There was no way to fix this mess.

On the dvd S4 commentary track the original way they were going to have P/J breakup was that Joey was going to be unable to thru with Sleeping with Pacey and he would realize deep down it’s because she still wants her first time to be with Dawson.

That's really how it should have played out.

I really wonder why Katie Holmes was so dead set against a Dawson and Joey ending on the show. Do you think that there was bad blood between her and James Van Der Beek? The show ending with Pacey and Joey together really did go against the entire premise of the show, so I don't understand why she would be so vehemently opposed to that premise, because it's what she signed up for. I think that she had gotten used to the writers and producers catering to her and she probably liked Josh more than James, so she wanted to end up with Pacey, and she foisted that idea on Williamson and Stupin, who stupidly went along with it.

Oh my God, really? Unreal since that is STILL what it seemed like even if PJ didn’t break up. Why didn’t they go there? They basically wrote it that way but didn’t go through with it officially.

Good question. I don’t remember any tension or problems between James and Katie so if she had a problem with James it wasn’t known. No idea why she would be so obsessed with Pacey and Joey since it went against the premise and did not make any sense. Williamson and Stupin listening to her is so pathetic. I don’t care how many fits she threw or if she believed (and apparently so) she had that much power to change an entire show’s ending, Williamson and Stupin still held all the power. They fumbled the ball and went into fetal position in defeat declaring Katie Holmes victorious instead. PATHETIC.

Hmmmmm I never heard of any bad blood between them. I do think she was probably closer with Josh tho.

Yep, the writer who does the commentary with Stupin on the graduation episode talks about it. Also Coda was written as potentially the series finale as the shows fate was up in the air

That’s exactly what I think as well. No bad blood with James but since she seriously dated Josh, and remained friends, they just had a closer bond. She was close with the actress who played Dawson’s mom, but that’s about it. Michelle, Busy, Kerr and Meredith, she was not close to.

That’s incredible.

I truly wish the show would have ended right after Coda aired. It was the proper time to end the series.

I agree, I would’ve been fine with Coda being the series finale. It also shows you with them thinking it might be the last episode they did D/J ending (sort of)

I also would have been fine with Coda being the Series Finale. The college years were largely a waste of time (mostly mine)!
