THOUGHTS WHILE WATCHING

- Emily and Chris are dating during this time period. I overthink and analyze everything. There is a lot of sibling bantering scenes in S4. The writers might have been having fun with Emily and Chris.

- Ephram only has to pay 20 dollars for his share of food (compared to Bright paying 60 dollars) because according to Reid, he only eats pasta. LOL.

- Amy is crushed on Reid and you can tell Reid bumbles and fumbles around Amy now as well which means he is very crushed on her, too. We did have to put up with Ephram drooling over Delia’s adult babysitter (and so much more) so this Amy/Reid crush thing is much more digestible.

- Andy and Harold deciding on what to eat for lunch is super cute and feels like an old married couple going there. The bantering and Andy making fun of Harold saying toilet tissue is outstanding.

- Harold inviting Andy and Ephram on the camping trip is perfect. This feels very S1 which is quite the norm in S4, bringing us right back to the beginning of Everwood.

- Andy, your family is from New York City, but you’ve lived in Everwood long enough to appreciate the beauty, mountains and majestic nature of Everwood.

- I still continue to like Ephram’s hair and his New York City T-shirt is awesome. I love the black and gold coloring. Send me one, Ephram.

- Mystery solved! Ephram teaches more than one student so he’s collecting a very nice paycheck. The audience just gets the see his extra time with Kyle but he teaches many other students. Thankfully Ephram has cash coming in.

- Bright, make up your mind, you are impressed with Ephram’s piano teaching now but in a past episode you were scared he would be concentrating on piano too much.

- Yoga poster/pamphlet on the wall must be Reid’s.

- So in only two minutes, Jake can diagnose the exact form of bladder incontinence this woman has and suggest surgery on her without one test confirming his suspected diagnosis?

- Kyle is very complicated and Ephram has sensitivity and patience.

- Premarital sex talk for Bright and Hannah. Bright cannot be shocked about this reality. Ephram wasn't.

- Andy so excited Ephram wants to go camping is really cute.

- Delia to Andy: Don’t be shocked, I know stuff.

- Delia to Andy: This family needs so much help.

- Jake is a tool and hiding a secret, so keep yelling, Edna.

- Irv should think of a good picture on the back of his book. Marketing sells. Edna, support Irv here while you hate on Jake but separate the two because one is annoying and one is sweet. Spoiler alert: Your husband is sweet.

- The beauty of where they filmed Everwood is incredible: blue water, green forest/trees, mountains, majestic.

- Andy offering to share a tent with Harold is hilarious.

- Hannah excited thinking Bright is fine without sex before marriage is sad.

- Amy: Even Bright's not stupid enough to throw away the best relationship he's had over sex.

^^^ Oh Amy... hold that thought.

- Reid is not out of your league, Amy.

- Andy and Harold are going stargazing. Shippers are melting.

- Harold literally admitted he will not stargaze alone.

- Even Ephram isn’t shocked when Bright told him about Hannah not wanting premarital sex.

- Those mountains are so beautiful. The mountains are always a separate character in every episode.

- Reid is confusing. Poor Amy. Amy, go reunite with Ephram, your soulmate, please.

- Jake telling Edna to sit down and shut her mouth is disgusting.

- The gorgeous mountains staring at Bright and Ephram with Ephram joking that their fathers must be making out is truly the writers allowing Harold and Andy fans to celebrate.

- The Bright and Ephram conversation is so important. Bright decided to break up with Hannah. Ephram explained it perfectly that he’s not a jerk for going there, he has different needs and expectations, they are in different places, which is fine. So why doesn’t Bright listen to Ephram? He wouldn’t have cheated on Hannah then. It’s confusing because a part of me feels like you could wait for the one you love regardless. But I understand why Ephram gave Bright this sound emotional, intellectual advice and support.

- Hannah escorted Sam to the Halloween party and very sweet she took Amy’s place because she’s her best friend and supports her.

- The very best scene of the episode is this one between Ephram and Andy. Of course Ephram came back for Amy...

Quote:
Andy: Couldn't sleep either, huh? -

Ephram: Ah. No.
Whoever's idea to serve rice and beans with Bright around ought to be shot.
Thought there was a frog loose in our tent.

Andy: Well, I brought something that might help us pass out.
Or at least find this all more amusing.

Ephram: Ah.
Grappa.

Andy: Yeah, seemed like a good occasion.

Ephram: So why'd you ask me out here?

Andy: I don't know.
Why'd you say yes?

Ephram: I asked you first.

Andy: You really wanna know?

Ephram: Yeah.

Andy: I wanted to spend time with you.
You said you wanted to know.

Ephram: No, it's funny because it seemed like you've been avoiding me lately.

Andy: No, I haven't been avoiding you.
I've just been trying to give you your space.

Ephram: Because you're scared of me?

Andy: No.
Yes.
Very much so.

Ephram: Am I really that bad?

Andy: Sometimes.
Not always.
But, hey, here we are.
We got a fire, stars.
A bottle of 50-proof ltalian fruit wine.
Tell me what's going on in your life.

Ephram: Jeez, Dad, get off my back, okay?
Just kidding.
Ahhh. What's going on in my life?
Let's see.
I got a 14-year-old kid giving me nothing but grief, that's exciting.

Andy: Is that one of your students?

Ephram: Yeah, this kid, Kyle.
He thinks he's God's gift.
He's good, but he's a pain in the ass and a complainer.

Andy: Well, please explain.
I can't relate.

Ephram: Yeah, I know, I have a lot more respect for all the crap that I put you through.

Andy: Well, for all the times that you were a cocky pain in the ass, and there were many, there was usually a good reason.
So it's probably the same with him.
Now it's my turn.
I get to ask you a question.

Ephram: Do I have to answer?

Andy: lt'd be nice if you did.
Why'd you come back to Everwood?

Ephram: I'm still in love with Amy.

Andy: Better pass that grappa.

Ephram: That's the thing about 12 hour train rides. Gives you a lot of time to think.
I never should've broken up with her.

Andy: You did what you had to do at the time.

Ephram: That’s what I kept telling myself.
But the truth is, she was the best thing that ever happened to me and I blew it.
I was pissed off at you, I took it out on her.
Now all I wanna do is tell her that I'm sorry, but it's too late for that.
I am glad I came home, though.

Andy: Me too.

- Ephram does not hesitate to say he returned because he is still in love with Amy.

- Ephram tells the audience what he did to Amy when he coldly broke up with her was wrong, he took everything out on her and it was a massive mistake he deeply regrets. He was pissed at Andy and used Amy as a punching bag basically, and took it all out on her. He is still in love with her, shouldn’t have broken up with her, because Amy is the best thing that has ever happened to him. Well... the vast majority of the audience understand this, Ephram. We understood it at the time, and certainly comprehend this reality now. But thank you for the clear confirmation.

- Of course Andy shares the wine with Ephram that Ephram got him while in Europe.

- Ephram learning via Kyle he treated Andy like crap in the past is so important.

- Andy gives a strong hint that Kyle has a secret.

- Harold singing while Harold and Bright are boating is so great.

- Nature continues to make me smile.

- Bright was so rude to Harold. How incredibly rude was Bright to Harold here. This is why I don’t get massively bothered by Harold not always treating Bright perfectly because it goes both ways. Bright can also mistreat his father. Maybe tell Harold it’s not him you are upset with, Bright. Bright told Harold he’s over the trip he’s had with his father for years and years and never told him he was taking things out on him and it wasn’t true. I would never in a million years hurt my parents like that even if I was upset over something else. I am not saying I never threw fits as a teenager but I never would have allowed them to personally think I didn't care about spending time with them anymore like Bright did with Harold.

- Edna taking the class for certification was smart but making Jake pay for the certification along with a nice hotel and food while mentioning his endless Botox procedures as easily covering the financial aspect was perfect revenge.

- Edna saying she’s worried about Jake… he looks overworked and too stressed might be foreshadowing his addiction.

- Poor Amy is sleeping when Reid shows up. LOL.

- Reid calling Amy pretty then the kiss… feels weird because that’s not Ephram. Okay, go away now Reid.

- Finding out Kyle is a loner, had a birthday and his dad did not call is really sad.

- Delia stayed with Nina which is interesting. Hopefully Jake didn’t bother Delia while she was there.

- Andy overhearing Amy telling Hannah about the kiss with Reid... Andy looked so sad for Ephram.

- Bright doesn’t break up with Hannah…

FINAL THOUGHTS

Great episode, storylines moved but also seemed like a set up for bigger things to come at the same time. Kyle storyline is evolving. We are finding out more things about him from his mother such as his father bailing and not contacting him on his birthday which is why he was sensitive to Ephram mentioning he was hanging out camping with Andy. Andy also giving a foreshadowing hint that there is probably more to Kyle acting out and as we know, he is correct. Ephram is amazingly learning things due to his interaction with Kyle such as how much he enjoys teaching and the terrible treatment he went with against Andy in the past. I mentioned in the last review maybe Ephram was thinking about how easy he had it with Andy by comparison and shouldn't have treated his father so poorly in the past. I think he does finally get it now which is called growth and understanding.

The highlight of the episode was the Andy and Ephram camping scene. It was coming from the moment Andy and Delia discussed how Andy should act until it materialized between father and son during the absolute perfect moment. I love that Ephram wondered why Andy was, in his mind, ignoring him since Delia was right that Andy playing it cool was the best route for Andy. I liked Ephram acknowledging that he was very difficult in the past and did not treat Andy the greatest. I absolutely loved that Ephram admitted he was 100% in the wrong for breaking up and hurting Amy after Madisongate and taking everything out on Amy due to being mad at Andy. This is precisely why the vast majority of the fanbase was mad at Ephram for what he did to Amy and Ephram tells the audience we had every right to be mad at him. Ephram is still very much in love with Amy as he states she’s the best thing that ever happened to him. Exactly right. I love that Ephram gives us the validation that he was so wrong and deeply regrets his actions. Which is why an apology of some sort would have been appropriate. Andy looked so sad while hearing Amy tell Hannah about Reid kissing her since he knows Ephram will be heartbroken. I loved the Andy and Ephram interaction, and Ephram owning up to all of his mistakes. We tried to warn you, Ephram. If you listened to your father in S2 you never would have dated Madison. If you would have allowed Amy to love and support you after Madisongate you wouldn’t have thrown away your soulmate and you’d still be with her in the present instead of feeling regret and heartache over losing her. Your actions had severe consequences, unfortunately.

The Andy and Harold banter was pure gold. They went stargazing together. LOL. I enjoyed every Andy and Harold scene. I wonder if the writers were aware of how popular this pairing is because the stargazing, sharing a tent, Ephram’s joke to Bright about their fathers making out, seemed to be a cute way of honoring fans who love Andy and Harold.

I did not like how Bright treated Harold during that boat scene at all. Bright never even told Harold he was taking his anger and frustration over his situation with Hannah out on him. As far as Harold knows Bright truly was annoyed and upset because he was sick of being with his father on their yearly camping trips which isn’t true. That was cold, Bright.

I loved the Hannah and Amy friendship once again completely showcased. They are both there for each other in a genuine best friend way. They communicate, support each other with intense loyalty. It is so beautiful to see these two have a special best friendship bond.

Amy and Reid now slightly bother me because I want Ephram and Amy back together! I am such a hardcore Ephram and Amy shipper… I was fine with Amy and Reid until he kissed her in this one. Thankfully their ending is already well known. LOL.

Interesting that Andy and Nina are at least getting along enough for Delia to stay with Nina. I also found it interesting Hannah was watching Sam. Proof that she does things to help Nina. Take that, Jake.

Speaking of… whether Jake had a point or not, I completely despise how he told Edna to sit down and shut her mouth. What was that all about? Horrible. I was glad Edna was getting certified and going to Denver while sticking the hotel, food and course certification financial stuff with Jake using his Botox money as a way for him to easily pay the full bill. I think his short temper, overworked stressed out appearance, Edna even mentioning as much, is due to addiction foreshadowing.

Regarding Bright and Hannah… I see things a bit gray during this rewatch. When Bright told Ephram the situation and eventually said he was breaking up, Ephram perfectly stated why it was in everyone’s best interest for him to go there. I agreed with Ephram’s every word. But at the same time, I also feel like I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility to wait for sex if you are in love with someone and they are worth the wait. In other words, sure, Bright has been having sex for a while and many times for that matter. But none of those girls/women were Hannah. He’s never been in love with anyone until Hannah. So the question is what is more important to him? Having his physical needs met or being with someone he loves in a way that he’s never loved anyone else before and waiting until she’s ready even if it’s not until marriage? Bright either needed to break up with Hannah or decide he was waiting for Hannah until marriage. The decision needed to be one or the other. This makes his cheating even worse. He needed to make a decision either way and stick with it. The problem is we know he lingers, goes gray, hurts everyone involved by ultimately cheating.

Delia wasn’t in this one much but as usual she was a sage. I love when she told Andy she knows things and she literally did know what was best for his situation with her brother. Andy owes Delia a thank you and a surprise present of some kind. Your daughter knows everything, Dr. Brown.

Irv wasn’t in this episode much but I liked seeing him obsess over the picture on his book. He should have gone there! He should be proud of his book and what better way to showcase it by using a nice picture.

It was great not having to see Nina and Jake and just Nina and Andy discussing the trip and Delia in this one. I needed a break from Nina and Jake. I truly think showing Jake overworked and snapping at Edna was a sign of his addiction storyline coming up.

We did not have an Ephram and Amy moment but I love how this season still finds a way for them to be “present” no matter what. We found out Ephram came home for Amy because he is still in love with her.

We did not see Rose but she’s probably relaxing with a smile knowing her cancer is gone.

I really enjoy the constant S1 energy during the final season. You feel the energy of the first season throughout this final season. Greg Berlanti is specifically all over S4. It feels refreshing as we reach the finish line. Looking forward to the next one.

I enjoyed this episode which followed a theme of connecting four different major stories involving the core characters on Everwood, and it seemed to set the stage for future episodes.

I thought that the opening scene with Bright and Amy at Sam’s was hilarious when she admonished him for telling her that Reid was gay, and he used all the typical gay stereotypes to defend himself, ending with “Did you ever see a hetero guy work out that often?”

Reid himself then walked into Sam’s and he asked Amy to be on the “Scream Team” of volunteers at a haunted house, and she seemed to interpret it as his asking her out on a date, but she would find out later that wasn’t the case, much to her disappointment.

We saw Harold and Andy shopping together and Andy teased Harold about his shopping list, and Harold told him that she was going camping with Bright that weekend as it was a family tradition for him and Bright to go on an annual camping trip, and he asked Andy if him and Ephram had any traditions together and Andy replied no, other than yelling at each other. Harold then invited him and Ephram to go with them, and Andy initially declined, saying that they were “City Boys,” and the only thing they agreed on was that “nature sucks.”

We saw Bright receive a package and we learned that Ephram had other students besides Kyle. Bright’s package had something to do with his upcoming camping trip, and Ephram mentioned that Harold had invited Andy and him to come, but Ephram said that he didn’t want to go, because he had booked that weekend to work with Kyle, which disappointed Bright.

In the medical story of the week, we saw a woman named Bonnie, who was a friend of Edna’s, come to Jake and she said that she was having a problem with incontinence, and Jake said that he could fix the problem with a surgical procedure, but she seemed apprehensive about going through the procedure, but then they were interrupted by a rude woman demanding that her Botox injection be done right then, much to Edna’s consternation.

We saw Kyle display his usual “attitude” with Ephram at their lesson, so Ephram cancelled his weekend lessons with him and he decided to go camping with Andy, Harold and Bright after all.

We saw Bright and Hannah passionately making out, but then Hannah stopped Bright from going too far and she said that she didn’t believe in premarital sex, and Bright said that he knew that because she was religious, and he asked her to define what sex was in her point of view, and she said it was anything that made her feel uncomfortable, but she said that they could still make out a lot, but then she cut him off and said that he needed to get packing for his trip, leaving him frustrated.

I liked Delia and Andy’s talk about his upcoming camping trip and she wisely advised him to give Ephram his space, and then she hilariously said “This family needs so much help!”

We then saw Irv and Edna at their place and she was complaining about how busy she was and how shallow the cases were that she was dealing with, and Irv asked her to look at two pictures that he was selecting from for his book cover, and Edna said that everyone had become so obsessed with how they looked, but Irv said that in his case, people do judge a book by its cover, and Edna admonished him for being vain.

We then saw Ephram, Andy, Bright and Harold at their campsite, and Harold as usual was ordering everyone around, and Ephram said that he wanted to share a tent with Bright, much to Harold’s dismay.

We saw Harold and Amy talking about her and Bright, and Hannah said that Bright was a “sex addict” before he started dating her, and Amy said “the word is perv,” and she said that even Bright wasn’t stupid enough to throw away the best relationship that he ever had over sex, and it wouldn’t be a real relationship if someone wasn’t sacrificing something, and that relationships were all about sacrifice, compromise, and effort, which said a lot about how she viewed the relationship that she had with Ephram, but to me she was the one that made most of the sacrifices, compromises and effort in their relationship. Hannah and Amy then talked about Reid and Amy said that she felt that he was out of her league, but Hannah offered her words of encouragement and they picked out a “Naughty Pilgrim” outfit to get his attention.

Back at the camping area, Harold was up bright and early, but Andy said that he was going back to sleep, and a frustrated Harold admonished Andy for not spending enough time with Ephram on this trip, and I not only thought that Harold was right, but I also thought that Andy should have been more considerate of Harold’s feelings and gone fishing with him, and we would see the disregard for Harold’s feelings manifest itself later in this episode.

We saw Amy come to the haunted house with her costume, but Reid said that they had already picked out a costume for her and then a beautiful girl named Alice came up and she affectionately touched Reid, giving Amy the impression that she was his girlfriend, and Amy saw that they had pared her with a kid.

We saw Edna express her frustration as Jake’s office was filled with women waiting to get cosmetic procedures done, and she shouted out in frustration “is there anyone in this office who has an actual medical problem?” and Jake called her into his office and yelled at her for feeling like she was obsolete and that she was afraid to learn these new cosmetic procedures, and he said that this was a business and he wasn’t going to apologize for being good at what he did, and that she was missing out on everything and right now he was drowning and she needed to either step up or step aside, which I thought was a really cruel and unnecessary thing for him to say, because this really wasn’t what she signed up for. I also thought that he was way out of line to lose his temper with her like he did and tell her to “sit down and shut up.” I was glad that they later came to an understanding as Edna told Jake that she had signed up for a course to get her CPSN credentials, and she told Jake that he was working too hard.

I liked the talk that Bright and Ephram had and Bright said that Andy had totally changed and he had adopted a go with the flow attitude with Ephram and he let him do whatever he wanted and that he didn’t treat Ephram like a kid and Ephram said that he didn’t let Andy treat him like a kid, and it he wanted to change his situation, he had to say no to his dad. Bright took those words to heart later, but he took those words to heart at the wrong time and the wrong place. Bright also said that he didn’t deserve respect because he was going to break up with Hannah, and Ephram gave him some really good advice, telling Bright that he wasn’t the guy that parents warn their daughters about (as Bright had referred to himself as) but that him and Hannah had different expectations for a relationship, and that he knew that ultimately, Bright wanted Hannah to be happy. I really felt that Bright was in a tough situation because he really did care for Hannah, but he was used to having sex in any relationship that he was in, so he was torn between his feelings for her and his “needs.” I loved how Ephram just listened to Bright in this scene and he wasn’t judgmental at all, and I felt like Ephram was growing up in each new episode this season.

We saw Hannah go to the haunted house where she found a very frustrated Amy, and Amy expressed her frustration over Reid to her, and Hannah kindly offered to take Amy’s place as a scarecrow, saying “It’s not a real relationship unless you’re willing to make sacrifices, showing once again what a wonderful friend she was to Amy.

I absolutely loved the scene between Andy and Ephram at the campfire as they both spoke from the heart and they shared the bottle of Grappa that Ephram had brought Andy from Italy, and I loved how honest they were with each other. I loved that Andy admitted that he was afraid of Ephram and that he had been walking on egg shells around him, and Ephram told him about Kyle and how he was really gifted but he was a “pain in the ass and a complainer,” and Andy jokingly said “Please explain, I can’t relate,” and Ephram laughed and said that he had a lot more respect for all the crap that he had put Andy through, and Andy wisely said that “Well, for all the times that you were a cocky pain in the ass, and there were many, there was usually a good reason, so it’s probably the same with him.” Andy then asked Ephram why he had come back to Everwood, and Ephram said that he was still in love in love with Amy, and that he never should have broken up with her and that she was the best thing that ever happened to him, and he blew it because he was angry at Andy and he took it out on her, and all he wanted to do was tell her that he was sorry but that it was too late for that, but he was glad that he came home, and Andy said “Me too.”

Conversely, after this wonderful scene between Ephram and Andy, who told each other how they were feeling, and who seemed to come to a new mutual understanding with each other, I was so disappointed and angry at Bright when he was in the rowboat with Harold because he was upset about possibly breaking up with Hannah, but unlike Ephram, he didn’t tell Harold what was on his mind and how he was feeling, but instead he cruelly told Harold that he didn’t want to be there and that he didn’t even want to come on this trip, and that he liked going on this trip in the past, but he was over it now, and that they do the same stuff and that Harold was trying to teach Bright the same things that he taught him 10 years ago, and you could tell that Harold was deeply hurt by Bright’s harsh and totally unnecessary words.

We saw Reid come to see Amy at her house, and he said that he was worried about her, and she said that she seemed busy with Alice, but he said that Alice had a boyfriend and he kissed her, and she was very happy.

We saw Ephram talk to Kyle’s mother, and she explained that Kyle’s father had walked out on her and Kyle when Kyle was ten, and he made little or no effort to keep in touch with them and that he missed Kyle’s recent birthday, giving Ephram further insight into why Kyle was the way he was and he also understood why Kyle had lashed out at him so harshly when he said that he was going camping with his father. She then thanked Ephram for working with Kyle even though she couldn’t afford to pay him and she admitted that Kyle could be a handful and that he didn’t have any friends and he spent his weekends playing the piano by himself, and Ephram remarked that she just described his childhood. She said that Kyle really looked forward to their lessons, and that Kyle was really excited that Ephram had called him when he got back from his trip, something that Kyle would never admit to Ephram as he made a snide remark that Ephram “should take a shower next time because you kind of stink.”

We saw Andy and Nina talk at Sam’s and Andy looked like he might go talk to Amy on Ephram’s behalf, but then he saw her gushing to Hannah about Reid, and he thought better of his plan and he didn’t say anything to her.

To end the episode, we saw Bright go to see Hannah with the intention of breaking up with her, but she greeted him so joyously that he didn’t have the heart to go through with it.

Overall, I enjoyed this episode which saw some relationships move forward but which also saw some other relationships stand still, and some of what we saw in this episode would soon come to a head in future episodes.

It was such a clever way to construct the episode.

I truly think the writers were slightly having fun with Emily and Chris together for as weird as that sounds given their characters are siblings. LOL. Yes, Amy and Ephram are temporarily apart romantically, yes, the guy she is crushing on lives with Bright. But there’s a lot of Amy and Bright scenes at the Abbott’s, Amy’s work. Matter of fact, the scenes started increasing in S3 even (when they started dating) but really increased in S4. Intuitive feeling that’s why they have more scenes together. Thankfully we can separate fact from fiction.

I forgot how coded and confusing Reid behaves. This even continues. I suppose we shouldn’t complain too much because it prevents Amy and Reid from getting serious.

Andy and Harold this final season is a thing of beauty. In addition, it feels so good seeing Andy joking about his relationship with Ephram. Finally, the dark, haunted cloud of Babygate is over.

It was refreshing being reminded that Ephram had other students and truly was making some nice money. We felt sorry for him originally not remembering he had other students and the reality is his income has to cover rent, food, other essentials and more. He’s also not going to school full-time right now either. So essentially he’s working full-time going to school part time. I’m proud of Ephram for growing up and taking charge of his life.

Quote:
In the medical story of the week, we saw a woman named Bonnie, who was a friend of Edna’s, come to Jake and she said that she was having a problem with incontinence, and Jake said that he could fix the problem with a surgical procedure, but she seemed apprehensive about going through the procedure, but then they were interrupted by a rude woman demanding that her Botox injection be done right then, much to Edna’s consternation.
I’ve never witnessed a primary physician who supposedly has extra experience in dermatological procedures listen to a woman discuss incontinence for two seconds, assume the type she has was due to childbirth, schedule her for surgery without one diagnostic test supporting his medical diagnosis and need for surgery. I know just based on having a hysterectomy numerous pelvic floor issues can develop just like post-childbirth. I also know that surgery is considered a last option. So I find this entire storyline very unrealistic but then again that was the point. They wanted to show Jake annoyed, short, and pushing the surgical procedures.

Quote:
We saw Kyle display his usual “attitude” with Ephram at their lesson, so Ephram cancelled his weekend lessons with him and he decided to go camping with Andy, Harold and Bright after all.
Thankfully Kyle was sporting an attitude since Ephram decided to go on the camping trip after all. LOL.

Quote:
We saw Bright and Hannah passionately making out, but then Hannah stopped Bright from going too far and she said that she didn’t believe in premarital sex, and Bright said that he knew that because she was religious, and he asked her to define what sex was in her point of view, and she said it was anything that made her feel uncomfortable, but she said that they could still make out a lot, but then she cut him off and said that he needed to get packing for his trip, leaving him frustrated.
Rina really didn’t allow them to have a couple of episodes having fun without major signs of a crumbling relationship.

Quote:
I liked Delia and Andy’s talk about his upcoming camping trip and she wisely advised him to give Ephram his space, and then she hilariously said “This family needs so much help!”
I love Delia so much.

Quote:
We then saw Irv and Edna at their place and she was complaining about how busy she was and how shallow the cases were that she was dealing with, and Irv asked her to look at two pictures that he was selecting from for his book cover, and Edna said that everyone had become so obsessed with how they looked, but Irv said that in his case, people do judge a book by its cover, and Edna admonished him for being vain.
I was Team Irv. He was right. He should’ve been really proud of his book and wanting to look his best on the cover.

Quote:
We then saw Ephram, Andy, Bright and Harold at their campsite, and Harold as usual was ordering everyone around, and Ephram said that he wanted to share a tent with Bright, much to Harold’s dismay.
LOL. Harold got to bunk with Andy.

Quote:
Their friendship is so real.

Quote:
Back at the camping area, Harold was up bright and early, but Andy said that he was going back to sleep, and a frustrated Harold admonished Andy for not spending enough time with Ephram on this trip, and I not only thought that Harold was right, but I also thought that Andy should have been more considerate of Harold’s feelings and gone fishing with him, and we would see the disregard for Harold’s feelings manifest itself later in this episode.
I liked how Andy and Ephram played out. It got Ephram wondering and Andy not looking so needy. If Andy might have forced a conversation Ephram might have felt pressured and annoyed. I like that Ephram wanted to spend time with Andy. I do think Andy should’ve gone fishing with Harold. We see later on Bright even treats Harold poorly on the boat upset over Hannah and having Harold thinking he didn’t want to spend anymore time with him.

Quote:

Poor Amy confused and unsure. Jake had zero right talking to Edna in such a nasty way. He can leave now.

Quote:
The Ephram and Bright scenes were brilliant in this episode. Ephram was a terrific friend to Bright. He was so kind, thoughtful, patient, giving him sound advice.

Quote:
We saw Hannah go to the haunted house where she found a very frustrated Amy, and Amy expressed her frustration over Reid to her, and Hannah kindly offered to take Amy’s place as a scarecrow, saying “It’s not a real relationship unless you’re willing to make sacrifices, showing once again what a wonderful friend she was to Amy.
I really loved seeing the main friendships in action… Ephram/Bright, Amy/Hannah, Andy/Harold, even Andy/Nina at the end of the episode.

Quote:
This was THE scene of the episode.

Quote:
I was so disappointed in Bright. The writers were clearly trying to compare and contrast the father and son relationships and how Andy and Ephram were having an open and honest conversation while Harold and Bright were not getting along and Bright was certainly not honest with his father, even unnecessarily hurting his feelings.

Quote:
We saw Reid come to see Amy at her house, and he said that he was worried about her, and she said that she seemed busy with Alice, but he said that Alice had a boyfriend and he kissed her, and she was very happy.
I miss Ephram and Amy.

Quote:
It was nice getting some backstory on Kyle. Just enough where we could understand why he acts out. It was also nice getting validation that his piano lessons = his light due to Ephram and his talent.

Quote:
We saw Andy and Nina talk at Sam’s and Andy looked like he might go talk to Amy on Ephram’s behalf, but then he saw her gushing to Hannah about Reid, and he thought better of his plan and he didn’t say anything to her.
I love seeing how Delia could easily spend time with Nina while Andy was away. Poor Andy overhearing Amy discuss the kiss and understanding how sad Ephram will be.

Quote:
To end the episode, we saw Bright go to see Hannah with the intention of breaking up with her, but she greeted him so joyously that he didn’t have the heart to go through with it.
It was such a sad scene. I don’t think the vast majority of the audience believed even if Bright delayed breaking up, these two were not headed for a break up.

Quote:
Overall, I enjoyed this episode which saw some relationships move forward but which also saw some other relationships stand still, and some of what we saw in this episode would soon come to a head in future episodes.
Exactly, good summary. I also enjoyed this episode.

Excellent thoughts as always, Jerry!

No write your thoughts too! When you write up your thoughts you always think of something that I’ve never thought of.

I love seeing how much Ephram is growing as a person through his interactions with Kyle, and he's realizing how badly he treated Andy through his interactions with him. It's so wonderful to see Ephram finally growing up.

I absolutely loved that scene between Ephram and Andy and I wish that Ephram said those same words to Amy as soon as he got back, but he never really did and I think that he was scared off by her telling them they couldn't go back to what they had together when he got back. Ephram's cruel actions toward Amy absolutely had severe consequences and I'm glad that Ephram was mature enough to see that what he did was wrong and it temporarily cost him the love of his life.

I love seeing the affection and respect that Harold and Andy have for each other now, and their scenes together are wonderful.

As far as Harold knows Bright truly was annoyed and upset because he was sick of being with his father on their yearly camping trips which isn’t true. That was cold, Bright.
I hated how Bright treated Harold in the canoe scene and he never should have lashed out so harshly and unfairly at Harold just because he was considering breaking up with Hannah. His anger toward Harold was totally misdirected and you could tell that it hurt Harold deeply, and I wish that we had a scene in this episode where Bright apologized to Harold.

I've really come to love and appreciate Amy and Hannah's friendship in this rewatch and I loved that Hannah offered to take Amy's place in the Haunted House.

I know exactly what you mean, but I also know that nothing really came of Amy and Reid's relationship, and we know that Ephram would soon ask Reid to back off from pursuing Amy, and he did, so I can get through their scenes knowing that ultimately Ephram and Amy would end up back together.

Part of the reason for that I feel is that Jake hasn't been spending much time at home as he's overwhelmed with cases, and that will probably lead to his addiction storyline.

I think his short temper, overworked stressed out appearance, Edna even mentioning as much, is due to addiction foreshadowing.
Jake was horrible to Edna and she should have told him to take a long walk off a short pier, but like you said all this was due to addiction foreshadowing. I wonder if Botox treatments are as prevalent now as they were then? I'm thinking that they aren't, but I could be wrong about that.

It's definitely in the realm of possibility to wait for sex if you're in love with someone and they're worth the wait, but I think that it was established, and it was even said in this episode, that Bright had sex many times, and ultimately, he didn't have the maturity to wait. I also don't know if he intended to marry Hannah someday, so like Ephram said so perfectly, him and Hannah had different expectations for a relationship, so ultimately things weren't going to work out between them.

I loved how Andy listened to Delia's advice and he took things slowly with Ephram on this trip, and they ended up having a wonderful conversation that we had all waited so long for them to have.

I didn't like how Edna snapped at Irv, and there was nothing wrong with him looking for a nice picture to have on his book jacket.

We all needed a break from Jake and Nina! I found Jake mostly tolerable last season, but I can't stand him this season.

I'm so glad that Greg Berlanti was actively involved with this season, as it really does have a Season One feel.
