When did Dawson's Creek "jump the shark"?

The moment Season 3 began, I knew it was over. What about you guys?

I personally thought the show was overrated to begin with but it had potential in the first season but if you want the JTS moment it was when they put Dawson/Joey together. To me Kevin didn't think the show would go beyond a season so everything he wanted to write about he did such as putting Dawson/Joey together at the end. However when the show was renewed it wasn't the same afterwards and it showed. Joey went downhill as well as Dawson. Despite what I thought about Dawson/Joey personally you don't put the lead in couple together so soon its shark bait right there. Plus it stopped being an ensemble show and more about Joey. Not a good thing

I guess after season 2. Season 1 stays the best to me but season 2 was good as well. When kevin left something got lost. The first part of season 3 sucked to say the least. It got better with the end and season 4 seemed to put our show back on track but then again the last season ruined everything to me.

Very true!!!

I never really watched the first two season first time around. I started watching at the start of Season 3 so for me it 'jts' at the end of Season 4/start of Season 5. Ireally disliked Season 5. Then for me it picked up towards the end of Season 6.

Having recently watched both the first two season, I can say they were go, but no worse or better than three or four.

Prehaps it depends on when you started watching the show.

I'm tempted to say when Pacey gave his 'I'm the best sex you've never had speech' to Ms. Tamara 'no I don't mind a little statutory rape on the side' Jacobs at the end of the pilot, but even though I think the show was hovering around bad pretty much from the get go, I think it officially jumped the shark when Joey got mugged and began to first banter then sing to said mugger. I think it was all pretty much down hill after that.

I'd say sometime in season 5. I guess its different for every one but I really think it "jumped the shark" when the main characters started interacting more with other tertiary characters than with each other. So I'd definitely say it happened when they hit college.

I totally understand why many of you feel that the show "jumped" with Season 5. While I firmly believe that the show went completely downhill starting with Season 3, by Season 5 it had reached all new kinds of lows.

I totally agree. Season 3,especially the 1st part, wasn't the show i used to watch. You can see the changement in the writers and in the level of the story. I think it got better though toward the end of the season and season4 made me hope for an improvement. Season5 was ok but yes not the one of the best seasons because of the reason Sugz said before. The main characters began to interact less with eachother. Season 6...was the worst of ever. Really.

Season 3's premiere. At that point, it was clear that the sweet innocence of DC had suddenly disappeared and had been replaced with something pointless. Fortunately, it got back on track toward the end of the season...until season 5, at least, but that's another story.

I don't think the show ever got back on track. Sure it got better at certain times, but I would hardly say that it regained the same quality that we were originally presented with.

I know I´m in the minority here, but I never ever like the firsts seasons. For me the show was prety bad... I began to watch it with the PJ story, and I loved it. I think the show drastricly changed in season 5. Even when I don´t like the first 2 season, It´s still has the "capeside magic". Season 5 and 6 was a disaster (except for the PJ stuff)
