Over here there weren't a lot of representation in the 90s. But we're exposed to other TV shows and movies from other Asian countries and Mexican telenovelas was such a huge thing here when I was a kid. American TV shows are of course an all-white cast so it wasn't a huge deal back then. But now the U.S. is very diverse and media still doesn't reflect that. So when you're a POC living in the U.S., it's like you're invisible and don't exist. Same goes with LGBTQ which is underrepresented. It's much better now. I think almost every show I watch has at least 1 LGBTQ character.
