Yeah I think it was in OotP where Dobby tells Harry it was Lucius who put Tom Riddle's diary in Ginny's cauldron. He did play a much bigger role in GOF which was all sadly scrapped in the movie. I would've preferred his appearance in GOF so his death in DH would be more heartbreaking. Not that it isn't but of course continuously reading (and seeing) a character makes us attached to the character so the death will be very sad.
