He did. and you should at least be happy to know Ian felt the same way.

And I felt he explained it well... with Elena, she loves him for who he is and sort of accept anything he does whether it's bad or good and I have to admit that I HAVE loved ships like that over the years, however DE wasn't one of them.
With the way Damon's character was since season 1, I always felt he'd be better with a person who put him in his place and do NOT allow him to make terrible decisions and move on and forget and that's what Bonnie was. She was the one to tell him what he is doing is not right and no you won't be forgiven every week for making bad decisions that you can control and that's why I preferred Bamon.

Although ironically it was different in the books. lol
Bonnie accepted Damon's bad behavior and moved on from it and Elena was sort of that strong one to put her foot down and obviously she was in love with Stefan as well in the books, it's probably why I preferred Bamon because I remember in the books that Damon wanted to just go after Stefan since he didn't really forgive him for what happened with Katherine...

So, I'm not saying one way is more right than the other way. Because on one side you can say it's unconditional love to accept a person for who they is and move on and on the other hand you can say that you can love someone while not accepting them doing unforgivable acts. It depends on what your cup of tea is.
