One of the reasons why people are so conflicted about Joe also comes from the fact that even though the guy is a creepy murderer he wasn't just a paranoid psycho he turned out to be right about everyone: Benji was an ahole and didn't deserve Beck's time, Peach was definitely manipulating Beck and was in love with her and Beck was sleeping with her therapist.
