Comments: Hyde’s last line says it all. But I changed Fez and Kelso’s Sissy Spacek punchline to dialogue that connected to previous events on the show. I needed Fez to leave the scene, as he does in the episode, but I didn’t want to copy the show’s joke. There’s nothing creative or transformative about doing that, and Fez really did have some bad experiences at the movies.
So to have Kelso acknowledge them deepened the moment and removed the trivialization of Fez’s sensitivity – because Fez is a sensitive character whose feelings rise to the surface readily.
