She did tell Red that and maybe Red took it to mean marriage. People have pointed to this ep as a turning point for Kaplan.
But if it was, she hid it well. But she does tell Red he won't lose Liz and that's kind of her same reasoning for faking the death that she did it for Red.
I don't know. It's hard to believe the fake death just came to her at the moment it did.
