I'm keeping in mind that they didn't know this would be the final season when they wrote this episode, and were likely just trying to delay a baby storyline for Leonard and Penny since lots of people keep asking for one. We'll see how it plays out, but hopefully we'll still get confirmation of kids before the series ends like we have for the other couples.

True, that needs to be considered. I think they said they had six episodes written when they found out. Plus it'd feel incredibly awkward to just rule out the possibility of LP kids in the third episode of the final season, leaving fans with not much to be excited about for the rest of the season.
