In the episode Madi was having nightmares, she saw the deaths of the commanders, (similar to Lexa in season 3) she saw Becca’s death and several more. That’s when Clarke asked about Lexa (THE FACT CLARKE CANT SAY LEXAS NAME THO). And that’s when Madi said she knows that’s why Clarke is scared. So to summarise Clarke doesn’t want Madi to become commander because she’s terrified of losing Madi just like she lost Lexa.
But also these nightmares Madi is having, Lexa must have gone through the same struggle as a child, Lexa really is living on after all this time. Not the way we’d like her to, but the fact it is once again pointed out that Lexa is the love of Clarke’s life makes me so happy.
