Because, otherwise, they'd be working them out as newlyweds.
Maybe the show should've done a flash-forward after season 6. No more '70s.
But now we get a season of all the characters as adults (and in their rightful pairings
). The show was so weird with time anyway that a flash-forward would've fit right in.
