there have been some comments made by both Jen in an interview, and by the screenwriters, that perhaps the film should have had Aurora wake up first, and then she encounters Jim who has been awake for a year, there is mystery for a bit, then we the audience find out that Jim woke her up, just as Aurora does, and the movie plays out from there, as it does now.
i disagree with these interview comments, because if we did not have that first 25min of film showing Jim waking up, trying to remain positive about his situation, then going slowly insane over a year, how could we ever empathize or sympathize with him? the whole point of the film, is a what if morality question. what would you do if you were stuck in that untenable situation?!
the theatrical version is the way it should be.
