I admit, I did not remember that but don't forget that in a fanfic the author can do with the canon whatever he/she wants.
Now that you've put that out there, in retrospect, it indisputably was considering Buffy's revelation from that same dream that she, in fact, DID NOT fear being left alone as she assumed she did but in fact realized it was what she needed, that it would bring her freedom and utter peace.
