Oh Cece totally understandable. I'm also not a huge fan of crowds... I basically only make exceptions for conventions. And you're right, starting off with smaller cons is the way to go (that's what I did, first only going to specific fandoms conventions and then expanding for the big ones)
Once you start going you really get into it, so the crowds ended up not being that scary (also knowing a few people that attend already also makes it easier)
