Max was definitely a shipper. Heck he was disappointed when Booth was Hannah. He really thought they would come to their senses. So he could sense when something was different. And it was a fun episode. For a season ender, it had a major twist and yet it was fun episode. Seeing Buck and Wanda back in action was so great.
