I like that it shows that he no longer feels like he needs to prove that he's different from his brother or his father. His character growth has been phenomenal as illustrated that he wasn't throwing himself into the suicide mission without a thought. He went with Hook to help him but he made him slow down amd think about it rationally first. Such a big step for him once he let go of the anger he felt towards his father "giving up".
