The pic didn't bother me. I don't know why Juliette and Avery aren't sitting next to each other, but it didn't seem like a big deal to me. Maybe Avery wanted to talk to Will? Who knows?
As for the interviews...I didn't get a sense of the Maddie show from them, but I did get a sense of the Daphne / Deacon show from them. I hope the show is more of an ensemble, but if it isn't, this was the first clue.
