It's like I said at the start of the arc, this is them doing Neal V2.0. Rumple has a grown up son who wants nothing to do with him that has a conection to Emma. If you look at the S2 new York and the S3 neverland arc it was about Emma-Neal-Rumple and Belle was written out for most of it. This is the same because the writers are just redoing the storyline again with Gideon as neal and the black Fairy as Peter Pan. Black fairy and peter Pan are pretty much the same character or fill the same role.
