I don't think Gigi's mom was much of a mom at all. So I doubt she encouraged it. And they didn't see other often, also because of Rory's relationship with her dad. There is a huge age difference, maybe now that they are older, they could be closer, but isn't she living in Paris? Gigi is what, 15 now?
