Even though I completely understand why it had to happen, I didn't like how a) Klaus compelled Stefan to forget about him and Rebekah, and b) Klaus daggered Rebekah when she told him that she wanted to stay with Stefan.
It was tough enough to run with only two people who were Originals. Turning the duo into a trio, the third person being someone who could be killed and/or manipulated so easily, would have been a huge risk for all three of them. As for Rebekah, Klaus doesn't do well when people try to leave him, and since he wanted to protect her from their father, he felt that his only option was to dagger her and take her with him.
