I'd probably go for a younger one. When I grew up we took care of some older dogs, which was very fulfulling, but they were all damaged. With that in mind I would prefer to have at least one pet who can truly be happy his/her entire life, you know? I can't save 'em all, but I can make sure at least our future pets won't have any harm to begin with.
