Their relationship is complicated, with a lot of hurt feelings.

Charles Xavier is the founder of the X-Men
and runs a private school that shelters and trains mutants
(people who were born with superhuman abilities).
He fights for peace and equality between humans and mutants in a world
where anti-mutant bigotry is widespread. He is himself a mutant,
a very powerful telepath who can read and control minds.

Magneto is a mutant, born with the ability to control magnetism, which
gives him power over metal objects. In a world where anti-mutant bigotry
is fierce and widespread, Magneto believes mutants must dominate humans
if they are to survive as a race, and this typically makes him a villain
and foe to the X-Men.
