Well actually killing whatshisface just because FB girl and the other prisoners wanted him too was pretty dark. Being a monster to fight monsters, fighting darkness with darkness is the exact opposite of what he's trying to do now. So the FBs have sort of started taking him darker although it took like 14 episodes to do it. And they probably won't keep going dark so the one step towards darker Oliver won't matter much.
