The movie stars Richard Dreyfuss and Bette Midler as an unhappily marrried (but wealthy) couple and their dysfunctional family. One day, a bum named Jerry (Nick Nolte) tries to commit suicide by drowning himself in their pool. Dave (Dreyfuss) saves him and tries to get him back on his feet. In the meantime, the family begins to fall for Jerry.
