Yeah - the conductor of the flute choir I play in said a few people were sticking out and that you shouldn't always play soloistically. She is always telling me I'm playing too loud, so I'm pretty sure she was talking to me. I've been practicing not playing quite so loudly when I play -- especially in the upper register.
Sometimes it's hard to hear criticism, but it does help you to grow.
