Eye of the Beholder aired 11 November 2001. I made an error when searching for episodes aired today...and strangely enough another Terri episode (Never Gonna Give You Up) aired on the 19th. Happy Throwback Terri day?

Main Plot
Insecure Terri does not want to attend Degrassi's first nighttime dance because she's self-conscious about her weight and is sure that "no guy would ever be interested in her". Spinner has a crush on her, but Terri is utterly oblivious when he displays interest in her. It also turns out that a jealous Paige wants Spinner for herself and will do anything by playing on Terri's insecurities. She gets Terri drunk thus making her embarrass herself at the dance. In the end, Paige splits the couple up before they have even begun.

Sub Plot
Meanwhile, J.T. and Toby skip the dance to stay home and look at porn sites, but in the midst of their fun, Toby's parents come home and catch them. Furthermore, Emma goes to the dance by herself since Manny's strict parents forbid her to go to a night dance. She feels lonely at first, but she ends up meeting Sean Cameron and they share a romantic dance together.

Because now you want to rewatch it too: Degrassi - The Next Generation | Season 01 Episode 04 | Eye of the Beholder.

(Pre-rewatch thoughts) I just can't believe that Terri didn't end up with Spinner. I suppose him turning her away at the end of the episode was a consequence for her drinking...but damn it it hurts to this day. I'm not really a fan of Terri in the later seasons but in this episode it was impossible not to root for her. I wanted that happy resolution where we wee her happy with herself. Instead she is disappointed again. Her character never really reached that goal of self acceptance. During her whole run she kept restarting. Which is realistic but kind of unsatisfying as a TV viewer.

And the subplot? I think I'm going to have some nice Emma/Sean feels. I liked them early on. "Do you want to dance?" Brave junior high girl approaching her crush...and he's about to fight another guy! Intense stuff.
