The show as a whole is amazing. Root and Shaw are indeed very well written - kinda refreshing to see female characters like that being written so finely well and not for fan baiting. I started watching because Amy was on it and I'm a fan, and I ended up falling in love with the whole show.
I really love that the show runners and the writers don't really make a distinction between what's cool for a guy to do on the show and what's cool for a girl to do on the show. I don't know if that makes any sense, but I like the fact that they don't seem to go "Oh that would be a cool thing for a girl to do." They're a lot more like "Oh that's just a very cool thing for Root to do, regardless of gender." Which is quite refreshing and amazing.
Great great show. And seriously, Amy Acker rocks in it!
