I guess I've just never noticed too many male celebrities doing it. I am confident you're right, I think it's just less obvious to me than with celebrity women. I think of the Tom Cruise or Nicolas Cage situation, where their stage names became their real names too. Their children all took on Cruise and Cage as last names.

Michael Keaton's real name is Michael Douglas and he's never changed it. His kids are all Douglas, and he goes by it when not working. He even made reference to it at the Golden Globes or Oscars this year when he got up and started his speech by saying my name is Michael Douglas.
