Tybalt would have wanted Damon to remain so he could "groom" him.
But yes, he is at the very least honest about things. If she left for Casterly Rock for some point I see him being stubborn and not reaching out but eventually asking her to return. And then they work on their marriage and things start to get back to where they were before and then BOOM
She's gone. 
And Tybalt's heart
dies.
