Simon decided to start a new tradition for the contestants to do during the finale. He called every mentor who has appeared on American Idol and asked them if they can come and meet the new contestants and help them choose their songs for the finale and give them some pointers on what to do during group performances. Several mentors agreed to come and give their suggestions about what songs they should sing. Simon gathered everyone and told them to pick a partner and start yodelling then, but some of them protested because they can't do it. Instead, they wanted to rehearse their dances for the group performances because they still were forgetting the steps and needed help with them. Simon thought they should try something new instead so he decided that they will sing with instruments and the ones who play piano with guitar have more choices for performing. Being new could be terrifying because many of the current contestants were really experienced and ready to perform brilliantly on their instruments. Even when all the problems were resolved, some were still causing problems for the new contestants because they were making mistakes with their own instruments while on stage. So many of the songs had been covered before so they decided to get some new ones to choose from. It turned out that it was a good decision because the contestants were happy that they were able to try new modern songs that would be more known to
