That was my theory! Yay! Lol and I honestly think that would be best, and an easy way out! Like an AU mystic falls that was actually a normal place and not running rampid with supernatural creatures. They can take Elena back to season 1 or pre season 1 before her parents died and just make it so she's living in a new world where Bonnie wasn't a witch, Caroline was never turned and she never met Stefan and Damon
